In addition to the possibility of working in our Summer programmes we are now looking for NCS Assistant Team Leaders to join our team and work within schools to deliver our early summer programme during term-time.

We are looking for dynamic and passionate people to join our NCS team this summer as Team Leaders. You will be an organised and confident person, able to engage and support a group of up to 16 young people aged 15 to 17 through an intensive four-week programme including residential trips away from home, local skills workshops and social action activities.

This year the NCS Programme is divided into two OR three weeks. There are two programme models :

NCS three-week model

  • Week 1 : full-time, residential basis, taking place over five (5) consecutive days and four (4) nights including travel.
  • This week will be at an outward-bound centre, taking part in outdoor adventures such as climbing, kayaking and hiking.

  • Week 2 : This week is delivered locally on a full-time basis and takes place over five consecutive full-time days. This week will be focussed on delivering skills building workshops focussed around employability, confidence, public speaking etc.
  • Week 3 : A minimum of thirty (30) hours of activity on a non-residential basis. This week is delivered on a full-time basis and takes place over four (4) or five (5) consecutive full-time days.
  • Young people work as a team to design and deliver a project which benefits their local community utilising skills they’ve built over the previous two weeks.

    NCS two-week model

  • Week 1 : This week is delivered locally on a full-time basis and takes place over five consecutive full-time days. This week will be focussed on delivering skills building workshops focussed around employability, confidence, public speaking etc.
  • There is possibility for a one day visit to an outward bound centre.

  • Week 2 : A minimum of thirty (30) hours of activity on a non-residential basis. This week is delivered on a full-time basis and takes place over four (4) or five (5) consecutive full-time days.
  • Young people work as a team to design and deliver a project which benefits their local community utilising skills they’ve built over the previous two weeks.

  • Options to work more than one programme are available.
  • Once you are a staff member on our books you are first in line for additional work opportunities, such as Autumn 2021 programmes.
  • As part of the role you will need to encourage, motivate and inspire teams to make the most of their NCS experience and help them to develop transferable skills for their future.

    Your main duties will include :

  • Supporting, encouraging and motivating a team of fifteen young people to complete all phases of the NCS programme
  • Assisting the NCS Programme lead / NCS Wave Leader to ensure all safeguarding, data handling and health & safety requirements are in place to protect NCS participants and staff.
  • Engaging and building positive relationships with young people and their parent / carers
  • Working with the NCS staff team to deal with challenging behaviour from young people.
  • Ensuring programme content is relevant to the local community and builds on existing relationships with partner individuals and organisations
  • Assisting in ensuring in-kind funding opportunities are maximised
  • Leading in delivering ice breaker activities to young people at keep warm events prior to going on the programme.
