Role Summary

The Designer reports directly to the Chief Designer working closely with the Equiniti Credit Services development team. This role involves gaining a detailed understanding of the client or internal requirements and working with the scrum teams to develop solutions that meet the needs of the client whilst achieving the maximum effectiveness and efficiency of product design.

This role will offer the right candidate the responsibility to design solutions to meet a range of Client or Internal requirements and it is a role that will offer the opportunity for a candidate to demonstrate and build upon their existing design experience.

Designers perform a variety of tasks :

  • Application Development form a member of the application delivery Scrum teams, using ATDD & BDD to on-develop the group’s applications and manually performing solution acceptance testing;
  • Client and Internal Project Support client and internal projects as subject matter experts, providing design & analysis services that supports the Consultants and Project Managers.
  • Equiniti Credit Services provide hosted software solutions to some of the UKs largest financial organisations operating in a highly regulated and technologically advanced industry and differentiates itself by being a leading player based on its technically astute platforms.

    These embrace the latest in modern software technologies, hosting platforms including public and private cloud, testing and deployment methods which fully exploit automation.

    Thus a high level of technical competence is expected and familiarity with the company’s software architectures at a meaningful, technical level, is essential.

    The functional scope of the platforms covers unsecured, consumer lending across retail, motor and personal lending verticals.

    It also covers some secured and some specialised verticals. A very detailed understanding of these financial sectors and how Equiniti Credit Services’ software is deployed and utilised within them is desirable.

    The company has two software products one written in predominantly using the Microsoft technology stack (Ice.Net) and the other a mixture of Java, C, and Oracle PL / SQL (Pancredit).

    Equiniti Credit Services develops market leading applications for the finance industry. The company employs highly experienced staff most of whom have extensive knowledge of both the finance industry and the technologies required to deliver effective, modern software solutions.

    Core Duties / Responsibilities

    The Designer must be capable of performing effectively in the following tasks :

  • Work as part of a SCRUM team, alongside the Product Owner, Software Developers and Software Testers, embracing an Agile methodology;
  • Attend and contribute to the following collaborative meetings -Sprint planning, End of Sprint reviews, Retrospectives, Story Point estimation;
  • Define Acceptance Test scenarios, based on a Behavioural Driven Design (BDD) approach, using Gherkin notation;
  • Produce, where required, Solution Design documentation for use in Sprint execution, which will arise from the Elaboration phase (i.e. Sprint 0);
  • Document the software solution on the ECS wiki (Confluence) including, though not limited to, architectural diagrams, functional behaviour, technical configuration;
  • Define the interface and behaviour of the RESTful API methods;
  • Work with the Solution Architect and Software Developers to perform Spike investigations on proposed new technologies and approaches;
  • Deploy the ice.Net software solution using Octopus and TeamCity;
  • Progress both software defects and new features using YouTrack;
  • Support external Client software integrations with the RESTful API;
  • Assist in external Client project initiation workshops, including high level estimating.
  • Skills, Capabilities and Attributes

    The ideal candidate will have the following :

  • An ability to understand the technical and functional extent of the Equiniti Credit Services products and customer requirements;
  • Strong commercial acumen and a focus on resolving problems with key commercials and service delivery in mind;
  • Change oriented and highly consultative when working with others;
  • Knowledge of the finance / lending industry (highly desirable);
  • Sound RDBMS knowledge and experience (particularly SQL / Oracle experience) preferably in the development environment;
  • GUI / Client Server / CASE knowledge and experience (desirable);
  • Proven experience of business analysis and application design;
  • Knowledge and experience of XML / JSON and web services / API design (highly desirable);
  • Direct experience of engaging in projects on waterfall and agile approaches;
  • Significant experience of large integration projects, knowledge of API (Application Programming Interfaces) protocols and applications for the transfer of data;
  • Have worked in a similar capacity within a multi customer, SaaS software environment;
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple work stream activities simultaneously;
  • Must be flexible, independent and self-motivated.
