The Systems Engineering Manager will report to the Engineering Manager, and will lead a systems engineering team that comprises roughly 10 systems developers & systems engineers.
The successful candidate will plan, drive & coordinate critical development activities including requirements definition, architecture design, system requirements compliance & system change control.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Achieving success in the role will be indicated by performance on tasks such as :
Adherence to the HICSE Business Management System
Defining systems engineering work needed on the programme throughout the lifecycle and working with planning and finance functions to develop coherent affordable systems engineering plan
Delivering a systems engineering plan to the programme in line with cost, schedule and quality requirements
Provide leadership and technical direction for assigned program tasks and personnel
Lead systems development, requirements definition and requirements compliance processes
Provide Systems Lifecycle leadership across subsystem and system levels to ensure development, integration, verification, test and acceptance work in a coordinated manner
Delivery of contracted and systems engineering artefacts and reports to the programme and customer
Promoting professional growth through timely performance feedback, coaching, and counselling
Supporting the Change Manager and Project Manager in the development of impact assessments for change requests coming from customers;
this will include development of cost and schedule as well as technical impacts
Leading system change within the project Change Control Process and chairing Change Control Boards
Developing and maintaining system configuration baselines through formal deliveries
Key Skills and Experience
Proven experience of Engineering leadership or management within multi-site, multi-component software intensive, safety related, high availability programmes
Experience and solid understanding of implementing BS EN50128 and BS EN50126
Experience of Requirements Capture / Management across the systems engineering lifecycle
Experience of Systems Test, Design and Integration on complex parallel development programmes
Knowledge of DOORS and its implementation for requirements management
Knowledge of UML / SysML
Experience of System Configuration, Baseline Management and control, and working on Software Development programmes
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Strong oral and written communication ability
Previous experience in development of Railway Signalling products & technology is desirable
Knowledge of railway standards is desirable
Chartered Engineer status is desirable
