Why this role matters
The Principal Consultant leads multiple major customer assignments and relationships and has a track record of successfully delivering large and complex programmes and projects.
Has been instrumental in significant sales wins and in developing key Board Level / CxO relationships. Has an in depth understanding of the customer’s strategy and knowledge of the customer sector or other relevant sectors.
The role holder uses BT’s consulting approach which relates to BT s Repeatable Solutions framework. Works with customer board members / CxO s to prioritize the business outcomes they want to achieve and translate them into IT strategy, transformation plans and business cases.
Does this with a focus on Future Networks and Infrastructure Transformation.
The role holder leverages the experience of the relevant BT wide communities, thus ensuring knowledge sharing and maximum impact for our customers.
What you'll be doing
Accountable for consulting P&L of the unit and pull through of BT Product Portfolio
Leads and contributes to consulting projects using the BT consulting methodology
Leads business development of consulting activities : Identify, develop and close opportunities
Account Plan : Helps the account team identify the customer s Business Strategy and its impact on IT Strategy; influences customer strategy through trusted relationships at the board / CxO level and by leading Digital Future Sessions
Leads development of new consulting propositions, tools and methods
Demonstrates thought leadership in area of expertise by writing white papers and presenting to internal and external audiences
Leads global community of consultants in area of expertise
Ensures training and development of less experienced staff

Experience leading practices in a leading consulting organisation.
Digital Transformation : Can lead CxO level discussions about infrastructure transformation across the BT Portfolio (Network, Contact, One, Compute)
Deep domain knowledge in Networking and Digital disruption.

o Future Network Technologies
o Future Network Markets
o Network Operations (cert. ITIL)
o Cloud Infrastructure Knowledge (cert. AWS / Azure)
o App & NW Acceleration Tools
o DC Networking (optional)
o Enterprise Architecture (cert. Togaf)
Strategy development : develops strategies that ensure alignment between customer business requirements and technology and creates roadmaps to drive the transformation journey for complex opportunities
Lead business development of consulting activities : Identify, develop and close opportunities. (track record)
Stakeholder management : uses a wide range of techniques to influence stakeholder decisions that achieve the desired outcome
Demonstrates thought leadership in area of expertise by writing white papers and presenting to internal and external audiences (example)
BT Products and Services - Has wide knowledge of BT s portfolio in the Network (Connect, DyNS) area
Financial acumen : strong knowledge of financial principles, develops and leads financial solutions, models and controls for multiple projects
Commercial risk awareness : identifies and manages risk on complex projects, considers risks not only to BT but also to the stakeholders
Workshop facilitation : facilitates complex workshops with senior customers to achieve desired outcomes especially with barriers that need to be overcome
Presentation skills : adjusts presentation style to respond to strategic challenges from key stakeholders
Public speaking : delivers powerful presentations that highlight issues with maximum impact, including sensitive commercial situations
Process design : develops and implements processes that achieve substantial customer operational and business improvements
Change management : communicates the criticality of change management activities and secures stakeholder buy-in for complex project delivery
IT governance : develops and communicates the organisation's policies
Insight and analytics : drives insight and recommendations based on sound analysis to enhance business decisions
Emerging technologies : identifies new and emerging technologies and products in area of expertise, assesses their relevance and potential value to BT, briefs colleagues and management
Problem solving : demonstrates expertise in critical business situations and can guide the business for competitive advantage during both crisis and longer-term strategic contexts
