Rare is looking for an experienced Release Engineer to join the Software Engineering team. We practise continuous delivery and everyone working on any of our products has an interest and some level of involvement in improving our build systems.

We all care and have input. We don't just consider 'builds' to be the thing we're chasing; instead we're aiming to construct the most rapid, reliable and capable software creation and delivery mechanism possible.

And that mechanism is put together out of software and people. The definition, establishment and continuous improvement of that objective lies with the Deployment Pipeline team.

This is a small, empowered team with big dreams. This is where our Release Engineers reside and collectively they're responsible for reducing the time it takes from deciding to make a change to having it available to players.

Their goal is to enable everyone in the studio to experiment and test their hypotheses through an effective feedback loop, in a reliable, quick and sustainable way.

As a result, they identify and build many of the elements of our deployment system and define the working processes that are necessary for people to develop our products efficiently.

As an Engineer at Rare, you'll tackle tough problems with little guidance and will help to set the direction of the group you're working with.

  • Enable developers and artists to iterate locally as fast as possible.
  • Help us to provide a world-class development environment, a scalable deployment pipeline and robust infrastructure that will enable the company to develop, experiment and deliver high-quality features quickly and with confidence.
  • Solve the complex problems and challenges inherent in developing AAA games at scale without sacrificing stability, quality or velocity.
  • Help us transition some or all of our deployment pipeline off-premises.

  • Rock-solid software design, programming and debugging skills in, possibly, a range of languages.
  • Be enthusiastic about modern development techniques and demonstrably keen to apply them to games. We're kind of test freaks; you have been warned...
  • We're passionate about learning and improving both ourselves and everything about the studio as a whole. We'll want you to be the same and to get involved with helping us enhance our culture.
  • Love the challenge of doing hard things, and in particular enjoy developing simple tools and processes to enable everyone to be able to do those hard things too.
  • Be level headed and value-focused, so as to prioritise conflicting requests.
