A Food and nutrition graduate with an interest in career in design and technology teaching is required for a full time role (term time only) on a on going basis to work in a Durham Secondary school.

This is a design and technology technician role and the successful candidate may transfer onto the schools direct contract after an initial period of working through Protocol Education.

The role :

  • Supporting teachers in the preparation of practical Food lessons.
  • Health and safety recording of machine safety checks on a weekly / termly / annual basis
  • Managing a petty cash float for ingredients, etc.
  • Ensure that all duties are undertaken within appropriate health and safety guidelines for the relevant subject area including the regular cleaning / emptying of dust extraction systems and maintaining equipment logs where required.
  • Stocktaking, ordering and collection of Food materials (MUST have full driving licence and own vehicle - petrol mileage paid).

  • Weighing out and preparing ingredients- a confidence with basic maths is a necessity.
  • Cleaning of subject specific (Cookers, tea towels, etc.)
  • Clean of equipment in use daily as well as replenish detergents for student use.
  • Working in conjunction / within the same classroom as teachers and students.
  • Devise a system for stock management and keep all stock in good working condition
  • Provide risk assessment and other documentation for inclusion in the school risk register as required.
  • Ensure D&T equipment is dismantled and stored correctly after use.
  • Contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of children and young people with regard to the Every Child Matters agenda and Area Child Protection Procedures.
  • This is a great opportunity for any aspiring design and technology teacher to work in an OFSTED graded Outstanding school, gaining paid experience before applying for a PGCE.

    The role is to begin ASAP, however the school will wait until September for the right candidate.

    The school is located within close proximity of Durham city centre.

    All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
