Our client, a global provider of reinsurance solutions for large and complex risks across business lines, is looking to hire an Assistant Underwriter in their Singapore headquarters.
The Assistant Underwriter, Facultative, Casualty and Financial Lines, will :
work within a team of Facultative Casualty and Financial Lines Underwriters, each of whom will have dedicated territorial responsibilities;
assist underwriters to underwrite, manage and steer a portfolio of Facultative Casualty and Financial Lines risks, profitably;
assist the Underwriters in developing and servicing a book of Facultative Casualty and Financial Lines business;
attend formal and informal training including learning from Underwriters and Senior Underwriters within the team; and
collaborate closely with stakeholders from other lines of business to achieve the directions, targets and goals for the team.
Assist to write a book of Facultative Casualty and Financial Lines risks in designated territory(ies) in line with the company's target industries / occupancies, portfolio mix and profit expectations
Assist in servicing current client base - cedants and intermediaries - through regular dialogue and technical exchanges
Adhere to the company's Underwriting Guidelines and Best Practice, as well as its Code of Conduct; contribute towards enhancement or fine-
tuning of such guidelines
Assist in formulating market-specific strategies, together with the Heads and Underwriters from other lines of business
Assist the Head and Senior / Underwriters in review of the Underwriting Guidelines and propose improvements, changes or amendments, when and where needed
Be accountable for the quality of the portfolio and completeness of its records
Keep track of the claims incurred and assist, when needed the Claims Department, in the handling and settlement of the claims
Any other responsibilities or duties that may be assigned by the Head of Facultative, Casualty and Financial Lines.
Fluency in spoken and written English
At least 2 years of underwriting experience in facultative insurance, practical experience in risk analysis and in the use of rating methods, basic familiarity with standard wordings and clauses prevalent in the various markets
Possesses a good knowledge of the risk landscape in the underlying industries as well as a basic familiarity with the markets, the distribution systems and of the key players
Self-starter with the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
Minimum Education Requirements
Degree holder and / or ACII qualification or equivalent
Other equivalent technical qualification would be desirable
Candidates with the relevant experience and proven track record will also be considered
