Job Description

Silicon Valley Bank’s Human Resources (HR) team includes roughly 120 employees globally, as well as additional consultants to support various initiatives.

  • HR partners across our global network spanning North America, Europe and Asia Pacific regions. The team is composed of generalists as well as specialists in Talent Development;
  • Talent Insights & Solutions; Total Rewards; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and Talent Acquisition & Planning.

    The Group Head of HR, EMEA for SVB will ensure support and alignment with business goals and employee engagement leading the HR team for the UK subsidiary and aligning with the greater HR Strategy.

    As the Head of HR, EMEA this individual will be instrumental in ensuring the achievement of business goals through the delivery of a proactive and responsive HR business partnership.

    You will lead a team of local HR professionals and in collaboration with them, support business growth and the development of SVB’s employees across the region.

    Leading SVB’s EMEA HR team, you will collaborate with the business and HR centers of excellence to integrate and distribute premiere benefits, compliance, compensation, development, learning, and staffing programs across the organization.

    Additionally, you will provide alignment across the HR Organization to offer expertise in the areas of development and continually improve HR policies, programs and practices.

    This position reports into the Head of EMEA & President of UK Branch with a dotted line reporting relationship to SVB’s Chief Human Resource Officer.

    HR Strategy

  • Lead the UK HR function ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient services to employees and other HR colleagues
  • Advise managers and HR colleagues on local employment practices and compliance while keeping up on emerging employment legislation
  • Coordinate the implementation of HR policies and procedures in the UK and across the region, updating local processes as needed
  • Effectively assess business issues and goals, translating them into an HR plan aligned with the business strategy
  • Collaborate, ideate and coach senior leaders to optimize organizational design and drive business performance
  • Drive and support the region / function leadership team in the planning and budgeting activities needed to deliver the people strategy
  • Lead the people aspects of change management and transitions, recommending process improvements (i.e. growth, reshaping, transition of services / roles / people)
  • Performance Management & Talent Optimization

  • Partner with leadership to cultivate and deliver a truly remarkable employee experience ranging from effective onboarding to high impact employee development experiences and holistic and competitive compensation and benefits
  • Ensure consistent adherence to policies and programs with an effort to minimize company liability and exposure, and to maintain / enhance employee engagement and effectiveness
  • Deliver proactive performance management process that actively involves employees and managers to drive effective business outcomes
  • Liaise with the Employee Relations Team to resolve investigations for internal and external claims
  • Compliance and Regulatory Leadership

  • This role will have allocated Senior Manager Responsibilities under the Senior Managers Regime for HR and Compensation activity for the U.K. Branch
  • Partner closely with Legal and Compliance as processes and procedures continue to evolve. This will include ensuring that people related activities support and comply with current and any new U.
  • K. Regulations, including Senior Managers Regime and Remuneration Code.

  • In partnership with the HR Policies team, maintain the HR first line of defense program for the UK. Partner across HR, educate and translate regulations into practical application.
  • Experience in a UK regulated environment is required.

    Compensation, Benefits, and Policies

  • Partner with SVB’s Compensation team to interface, facilitate, and serve as an advocate for the organization in matters of compensation and benefits.
  • Engage with employees, managers, and outside networks to identify and understand any nuances of job responsibilities and compensation / benefits market trends.
  • Actively engage with appropriate internal and external resources for policy design, implementation, and evolution.
  • Talent Acquisition and On-boarding

  • Develop and execute on the talent strategy for the region in support of business goals. Lead the Talent Acquisition team and ensure effective onboarding process to help facilitate an inclusive immersion into business units.
  • Ensure effective Interview Training for employees and consistent assessment process and candidate experience.
  • Terminations, Projects, and Employee Actions

  • As the team conducts exit interviews for terminating employees advise the leadership team and managers based on collected data and observations.
  • Reviews health, safety and ergonomic issues and engages in additional projects or initiatives as identified due to the position’s work with employees across the organization.
  • Own the annual regional Employee Engagement process, developing content, crafting and delivering the process, identifying strengths and opportunities to improve.
  • Training and Development

  • In partnership with SVB Talent Development team, works with the executive committee to identify development needs and collaborates with employees in the development and implementation of training and / or organization development opportunities.
  • Leads the decision-making process on whether internal design of course content or purchase of content is most feasible.
  • Will be actively engaged in the facilitation of training.
  • Requirements :

  • BS / BA or equivalent related experience may be substituted
  • Extensive experience within Human Resources leadership roles, within Financial Services
  • Deep knowledge of Senior Manager Regime and Remuneration Code
  • Knowledge and understanding of regional and local area employment laws is required
  • Excellent knowledge of employee relations, compensation, benefits, compliance, organizational development, and training
  • Desired skills

  • Develops relationships at all levels of the firm to ensure an understanding of the pulse of the organization.
  • Excellent business orientation and ability to understand the organization’s service value proposition and can translate HR needs within larger context of organizational success and profitability;
  • experience leading a regional office in the Banking or Financial Services industry preferred.

  • Strong leadership / management experience, commitment to development of HR team.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to influence and have impact on key decisions by demonstrating deep subject matter expertise.
  • Active member of the leadership team who proactively works with managers and employees on employee performance issues.
  • Able to effectively facilitate Learning and Organizational Development initiatives.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; approachable, insightful, good negotiator, ability to influence others.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Superior conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work with all levels within the organization.
