Job profile summary :

The Category Analyst (CA) plays a critical role in realising Downstream Procurement’s (DP) objective to become a world-class procurement organisation with leading capability in category management that deliver relevant, value-

adding category strategies to BP’s Downstream businesses. The CA is responsible for supporting end-to-end category performance (within their defined scope) and supplier performance management, operating in accordance with corporate policies and processes and defined governance.

The primary focus of the CA role is to form category strategies, based on supply market expertise, current and future business needs and global category spend and innovation opportunities that identify impactful business value (with a focus on savings, risk management strategies and robust category analysis).

The CA will be accountable to Category Manager Utilities, Europe (CM) for all sourcing, negotiation, business analysis activity in their commodity area.

The CM assures that all work activity performed at a category level has the necessary urgency to support safe, compliant, reliable, and efficient business operations.

Job Advert : Key accountabilities

Stakeholder Management

  • Working with the business interface resources in the Downstream Procurement (DP) organization to ensure consistency and alignment of messages
  • Manage business stakeholders to secure buy-in for category strategy , own relationships with key regional and / or global suppliers, manages the Procurement interface for category relevant site / region functional roles
  • Manage interface between category strategy development and implementation by the delivery organisation, working in partnership with Category Excellence, Global Business Services, Business Interface and Business teams
  • Review, monitor and report on market reports / commentary a on daily basis and identify changes and price trends in relation to gas and power.
  • Ensure effective communication between the category management and business interface organizations.

  • Take these learning’s and review against Customers purchasing strategy and brief the Category Manager accordingly.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with traders and other utility analysts and be able to access real time information
  • Category Strategy / Development

  • Provides support to regions assets to understand and, where possible, optimize the local, regional, and Global business requirements for utilities supply
  • Support the development, proposal, implementation and ongoing performance review of purchasing and risk management strategies for the Group’s gas and power needs
  • Identifies, implements, and realizes value through effective strategic cost management , utilizing best-in-class methods
  • Provide insight regarding energy and utility market developments across active global deregulated power and gas markets.
  • Research and prepare briefing papers / presentations on the energy industry and global markets

  • Ensure the category strategy is compliant with BP policies such as risk management, delegation of authority and DP functional guidelines
  • Assurance of the integrity of all purchasing measures in regards to policies, processes, tools and standards of BP
  • Category Specifics

  • Complete gas and power purchasing activities.
  • Provide invoice validation information to Customers monthly for downstream businesses.
  • Maintain data collection database for the UK, Holland and Germany
  • Assist in the management and deployment of the energy efficiency project for UK retail
  • Provide backup for Triads warnings service
  • Manage planning and implementation of next phase of ESOS. Keep up to date and brief BU’s on all legislative changes and update systems and processes to ensure compliance
  • Assistance to BU’s to define scope of ESOS audits within agreed Business reporting splits and support in helping them to achieve compliance.
  • Provide support to BU’s in resolving errors and inconsistencies in data by applying appropriate solutions
  • Assist BU’s to review action plans for energy reduction opportunities, prioritized from portfolio benchmarking and report interpretation
  • Degree Educated
