Contrary to popular opinion respiratory nursing is not just about sputum!!!

It is an exciting area to work, looking after a range of respiratory conditions including pneumonia, spontaneous pneumothorax, pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary emboli and many others.

It is a fast paced working environment and you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in ventilation, chest drains and high flow oxygen delivery and more.

You do not need to have any respiratory experience to become a staff nurse on C10 as training and support will be given.

We have close links with the Respiratory Assessment Unit who also offer ad hoc training sessions on the ward. There is also a Practice Educator who will also provide support and identify training needs.

We are a friendly supportive team who will make you feel welcome and the senior team members will play an active part in your development.

C10 is also a placement area for nursing students and trainee nursing associates and you will have the opportunity to act as a mentor for these students

You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of nursing care within the ward whilst caring for a group of patients with guidance and encouragement provided by the senior nurse in charge.

We like our staff nurses to undertake link nurse and auditing activities as delegated by the ward manager and we try to align this with an area of interest.

Ward C10 staff are keen to drive improvements in nursing practice and patient care at ward level and there are a number of Quality Improvement Projects that are currently being delivered out on the ward supported by the improvement team within the hospital.

We encourage staff to be actively involved in this work so they can directly influence improvements in practice.

The ward manager on C10 is one of 22 national Foundation of Nursing Studies Fellows who are participating in practice development to facilitate the implementation of Creating a Caring Culture’ at ward level for both patients and staff.

This allows C10 to offer bespoke development opportunities that are not available elsewhere in the trust.

We also have a network of Future Nurse Ambassadors on the ward, engaging with the NHS England campaign headed by Chief Nurse Ruth May to reignite pride in nursing as a profession and promote it as a career of choice for young people.

We are looking for individuals with initiative, good communication skills who are flexible innovative and dynamic in outlook with a keen sense of team working and willingness to learn.

You will need to be flexible and work a variety of shift patterns including weekends and rotation onto night duty. So if you are looking for a change of career or just starting out in the profession and fancy working on a ward with a wealth of development opportunities then C10 is the opportunity you have been looking for.

Dear Potential Applicant,

It is important you are made aware of the changes which East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has implemented with regard to charging for the cost of undertaking Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS) Checks (previously known as Criminal Records Bureau or CRB) and how this may impact upon you.

As this position is exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and involves work that is identified as a regulated activity as defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (2006), any offer of employment is provisional upon a satisfactory DBS check being obtained.

The cost of an Enhanced Disclosure will be £44.00, which includes a small handling fee.

In line with other NHS organisations in the North West Region, the Trust is now passing the charge for undertaking a DBS check on to candidates in the event they are successfully appointed into the post for which they have applied.

Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary. By applying for this vacancy you are agreeing to this undertaking in the event you are successfully appointed
