Avocet Staffing are currently recruiting for an experienced Nursery Manager for our client at their Nursery setting in Bristol
Responsible to the Area Managers and Board of Directors, the Nursery Manager will have a minimum level 3 full and relevant qualification in Childcare & Education with at least 2 years post qualification day nursery experience.
They will demonstrate good knowledge of OFSTED requirements, the Early Years Foundation Stage a management qualification is also desirable.
To count in the ratios at Level 3, Staff holding the Early Years Educator qualification must also have achieved a suitable Level 2 qualification in English and Maths as defined by the Department for Education on the Early Years Qualification List published on Gov.uk.
In addition, all staff who have completed a Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification (on or after 30th June 2016) must have a current Paediatric First Aid certificate to be included within staffing ratios.
If they do not have this, this must be fully achieved within 3 months of starting work).
The manager must have received the designated lead for safeguarding training and will be the designated safeguarding lead for the nursery.
Purpose of the Post :
To be responsible for :
The overall management of the Nursery.
The overall care and education for the children in the setting.
To effectively manage the staff team within the nursery to ensure that staff have the necessary tools to deliver a consistently high standard of care.
The safety and welfare of the children in the rooms at all times.
To assume responsibility for the daily operation of the Nursery with agreed plans and budgets.
To ensure that the nursery target occupancy levels are met.
To provide a dynamic, active learning environment for the children on a day-to-day basis.
Through reflective observations, support, monitor and recommend improvements for quality in all working areas.
Duties and Responsibilities
To ensure overall compliance with statutory legislations and frameworks.
Act as key older and have responsibilities for opening and closing the nursery.
To keep abreast of all new Legislation, Regulations and OFSTED Guidelines, and to ensure the effective communication of the same to all staff and report to senior management where changes to policy may be required.
Prepare for Ofsted inspections and implement any recommendations that may result from inspection.
Develop and maintain an ethos of reflective practice across the nursery and use information to develop and support action plans designed to address areas identified for development across the nursery and for individuals.
To demonstrate a commitment within the nursery to anti discriminatory practise.
Review and implement management and marketing strategies to maximise nursery occupancy and meet occupancy targets. In particular, actively seek out opportunities to promote the nursery;
hold promotional events at the nursery; efficiently and effectively implement the company’s enquiry system; actively manage nursery bookings being aware of and planning for annual booking trends.
To ensure nursery management systems are fully maintained and updated with accurate information.
To provide a safe learning environment through compliance with the settings risk assessments of the nursery. The manager will be responsible for devising and monitoring risk assessments.
To help provide an environment where enjoyment and fun are linked with discovery and learning.
To plan and prepare resources / materials.
To take overall responsibility for the cleanliness of the nursery.
To oversee the care and maintenance of furniture, toys, equipment and resources. To monitor stock levels of consumables and order as required.
Understand and support expected patterns of children’s development from birth to five years.
Support staff to ensure that they are consistently providing learning experiences, environments and opportunities appropriate to the age, stage and needs of individual and groups of children.
Identify and act upon own responsibilities in relation to health and safety, security, confidentiality or information, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Ensure that children’s transitions through the nursery and with other settings or schools are well supported.
Financial management with responsibilities for monitoring and reporting own budget, income expenditure, forecast budget and occupancy.
To monitor stock levels of consumables and to request items as may be required.
To maintain close co-ordination with appropriate external agencies. To assist in the development of networking and mutual collaboration with external agencies.
To remain in regular communication with Senior Management, including producing reports, preparing for and attending Management Meetings.
Also to report any incidences and accidents to Senior Management.
To analyse termly cohorts of children’s learning and development and ensuring that staff are using these to plan effectively for their key children.
To establish positive relationships by working in partnership with the children’s parents / guardians / carers, and to undertake good and effective communications as relevant.
To maintain and monitor regular communication with the Nursery staff team. To provide a chain of communication throughout the nursery via your Nursery management team, empower staff to focus on to key tasks
In the performance of the duties outlined the post holder may have access to confidential information relating to staff, children, parents and customers.
They may also have access to information relating to the practice of the company. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.
Consequently, ensure that appropriate records and administration systems, including the children’s families. Staffing, registers, health and safety, sickness records etc are maintained to ensure confidentiality of information.
Representation / liaison
To consult with parents to discuss their Childs progress and ways in which they could assist in their development.
To plan and lead regular staff meetings.
To plan and lead SEN reviews, meetings with parents / guardians / carers, and to undertake home visits as appropriate.
To ensure the smooth operation of the Nursery's Quality Management System through appropriate Self-Assessment and Quality Systems Audits.
including the SEF and relevant QIF.
To actively liaise with appropriate primary schools with respect to curriculum, transfer and practices.
To liaise and agree menus in advance with kitchen staff, ensuring that any specific dietary requirements of children and staff are adhered to.
To be responsible for the leadership, management and deployment of all staff within the Nursery.
Recruit and select nursery staff in accordance with company policy.
To ensure all staff receive a thorough induction to their position and area, provide regular supervision, Appraisals and personal development plans to include training plans, peer to peer observations and reflective wheels.
Appropriately manage staff absence including staff sickness, holidays and maternity leave to ensure sufficient staff are available at all times.
Ensure nursery management systems are maintained with accurate information.
Use a team approach, empower and delegate authority to the Nursery management team.
Deal with all disciplinary and grievance matters within the nursery, seeking advice and support from the HR department where necessary.
To, where required, attend marketing events / open days to support and promote the nursery.
To complete all required training to maintain qualifications and knowledge.
To oversee the planning of the curriculum within their room.
To support staff in planning effective individualised learning programmes for key children linked to their next steps.
To take overall responsibility within the nursery in ensuring that all relevant documentation is being completed e.g. room temperature logs, sleep charts, signing in and out sheets.
Adhering to the Policies & Procedures of Mama Bears Day Nursery and compliance with all statutory legislation.
To demonstrate good practice, shared values, give direction and shared goals and be an effective role model for other staff.
To lead by example.
To be flexible within the remit of the post.
Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the area managers or board of directors
This is a full time and permanent position. You will be expecting to work no less than 40 hours per week. There is a competitive salary for the role and the salary will be based around your level of experience.
