Purpose of role :

The primary purpose of REACT Basketball, Registered Charity SC045050, and that of REACT Netball, is the advancement of public participation in recreational, grass-

roots basketball and netball among children and young people. The secondary purpose is the advancement of citizenship through teaching and instilling the five REACT values, which are Respect, Enable, Achievable, Community and Togetherness.

The role of the REACT Netball Development Coach is to grow and develop the REACT Netball programme. This primarily includes, but not limited to, increasing levels of public participation among girls & young women, growing membership and empowering and equipping young people with the necessary tools to coach netball.

The Development Coach will also support REACT staff to improve and develop overall sustainability of the programme, both in membership and finances, and will be expected to work with various external agencies for the development of React Netball.

The Development Coach will also play a role in the continuous monitoring and development of all members across React Netball and will play a key role in positively engaging parents / guardians in the sport.

Main responsibilities of the React Netball Development Coach :

  • Delivering / supporting in the delivery of quality netball sessions to members
  • Increasing levels of public participation in netball, through REACT Netball, among girls & young women aged 5-25 years
  • Increasing and sustaining the level of active 5-25 year-old playing members within React Netball
  • Increasing and sustaining the number of young people, aged 16-25 years, qualified as Netball coaches / leaders within the programme
  • Providing effective mentorship and further development opportunities for young people, aged 16-25 years, through React Netball
  • Working in partnership with Netball Scotland to provide a pathway of progression from school netball sessions to REACT Netball community sessions, and then on to REACT Netball team sessions
  • Supporting partnership work with key agencies such as Active Schools, Funding bodies, Police Scotland, Foodbanks and other agencies as directed by your line-manager
  • To act as the REACT Netball representative at Community Sport Hub meetings in Renfrewshire.
  • Role and responsibilities of all react staff, whether paid or voluntary :

  • Upholding and Demonstrating the five core REACT values and ensuring value talks are delivered to a highly effective standard
  • Upholding the REACT Constitution, Duty to Care Policy and other relevant policies and procedures
  • For monitoring and, if necessary, dealing with the behaviour of participants that attend the services offered by your designated programme
  • Attending monthly Development and, if necessary, Management Team meetings and providing relevant information
  • Providing an accurate monthly report of the progress on your designated role
  • Depending on line-level; appropriately collecting, recording and depositing of training and event monies / fees

    This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and / or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.

    From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior any form of work taking place within REACT Netball.

    The post holder will be required to undergo a PVG Disclosure Check by both REACT Netball and Netball Scotland.
