Why this role matters
The role is based within TV, Media and Broadband unit of TSO, Specifically in the Delivery Design and Technology area. This is a small team who design capabilities and solutions along with technical support to the Media & Broadcast unit in BT Enterprise.
What you'll be doing
The role is within the Content Processing team who are responsible for providing design consultation services for BT Media and Broadcast.
The role holder is responsible for providing effective design support for projects dealing with all relevant issues under the guidance of the manager.
He / she provides support in the formulation of network, technology and evolution plans, and operational support policies and procedures.
The role holder provides assistance in meeting business objectives, solving business problems and furthering business success by applying industry, applications and technical knowledge through the definition of high level solutions on projects or the development of operational processes and procedures.
The team is focused on designing systems and networks for media processing of live content.We are also responsible for providing third line to operations through in-depth analysis.
A willingness to travel is desirable as the successful candidate will be required to liaise with suppliers and partner technical teams, as well as operational and market facing businesses which may require on site working.
This is expected to be infrequent and short and is dependent on business need.
Key Responsibilities :
Assists transformation strategy for the Media & Broadcasting team with particular emphasis on DVT of media edge devices.
Would normally lead on a specific deliverable of a small / medium scale project or implement smaller less complex projects to achieve required business benefits and manage to budget, timescales and quality.
Likely to indirectly manage people to deliver specific tasks or projects.
To contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
To ensure operational procedures are in place, maintained and followed as appropriate.
To input to cost / timescale solutions / options and manage expectations as appropriate with customer or Business Unit / LoB teams and may have responsibility for setting up work packages.
May involve liaising with internal, external and third party suppliers.
To personally participate in and contribute to BT wide professional community activities where applicable e.g. knowledge sharing, best practice within BT and external industry.
To use the relevant BT wide professional community framework to raise their skills and those of their team to the recommended PC standards.
To continually drive for outstanding Customer Service and Satisfaction, and engender and lead an absolutely customer focused approach to doing business.
Provide 3rd Line support of the Platforms to Operations / Service Assurance.

Qualifications / Knowledge
Preferably a member of a professional engineering / science institution or working towards chartered engineer accreditation.
Has an understanding of broadcast compression technologies (AVC / HEVC / TICO / J2K / MPEG4) and interface standards (MPG2TS / DVB-ASI).
Has an appreciation of delivery video over an IP network standards SMPTE 2022-2, SMPTE 2022-7 & SMPTE 2010.
Experience of writing test specifications and broadcasting testing useful.
Should have an appreciation of Networking technology such as multicast & TCP-IP.
Could have experience of support ITT / RFI / Vendor selection activities from a design perspective.
Experienced and competent in own area.
Completes own role with minimal supervision / guidance.
