Job Description

We are looking for an Assembly, Integration and Test Team Lead to join Airbus Defence & Space in Farnborough. You will join our Zephyr programme and report to the Chief Engineer.

The Zephyr is a state-of-the-art solar powered ultra-lightweight Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) for use in commercial and military applications.

You will lead the final stages of the production cycle : the assembly integration and testing of the aircraft and associated ground support equipment.

Working hands on and working in a small team dedicated to the final assembly of the large but lightweight carbon fibre aircraft, you will lead the installation of the wing surfaces, wiring harness, smaller mechanical support structures and avionics units.

You will test the aircraft and the whole system (once connected to the ground station), which culminates in a 24 / 7 multi day soak test where the system is operated as if it were flying in the air.

Working closely with the PA Manager, you will ensure all aspects of the PA plan are followed, including holding test reviews, producing test results and completing the aircraft and ground station technical logbooks.

You will need to be eligible to gain UK SC Security Clearance.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Daily and weekly planning with project manager

Leading and mentoring support staff

Maintain build and test records

Health and Safety process adherence and reporting

Self-certification of work completed

Contribution to Problem Solving and corrective action delivery

Safe handling and protection of very fragile and flexible components

Required Skills and Experience

Hands on experience in mechanical engineering, wiring harnesses, soldering and testing complex electronic systems, preferably in the aviation or space industry

Demonstrated knowledge of production / maintenance processes to high quality standards

Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and interpret requirements into finished products

Experience reading and understanding written procedures and be able to produce test reports.

Supervisory experience, able to coach and mentor new team members

Experience in conducting and recording of installation and system integration tests
