The function

Finance operates at the heart of the business, providing value added strategic decision support to the organisation. It serves to ensure the appropriate governance and controls are in place and is responsible for the effective day to day management of all core finance processes, protecting the assets of the company through sound financial management and efficient / robust processes.

As a function it is critical that the finance organisation is able to engage with key stakeholders, building effective relationships across the whole of IAG, providing value added commercial support to drive growth and shareholder value.

Job purpose

This is a key role across the finance team, with remit across three key areas, namely, Finance Controls, Technical Accounting and Taxation.

The key accountability of this role is to provide technical expertise for these areas, which will also involve seeking opportunities for continual enhancement, advising the business and making recommendations and managing core relationships across the IAG operating companies.

Key responsibilities

  • Advise on all matters relating to technical accounting, ensuring adherence to latest accounting standards, group accounting policies and best practice.
  • This will involve leading implementation projects and liaising with IAG Technical and internal / external auditors and consultants.

  • Key liaison contact for all aspects of Corporation and Value Added Tax (UK and overseas) including relationship with Group Taxation, overseas tax advisors and Commercial Finance;
  • Coordinate accounting and taxation advice for new contractual and proposition arrangements (UK and international activity) ensuring relevant documentation and accounting papers are produced for internal control purposes and external auditors;
  • Coordinate accounting and taxation advice in relation to new projects and initiatives.
  • Manage the Finance Risk and Controls Matrix (RCM) and Process Control Manual;
  • Perform periodic reviews of internal financial controls and advise, where appropriate, opportunities for enhancement, liaison with IAG Internal audit team and IAG controls team to ensure processes and controls remain updated and effective;
  • Review the Finance Codes of Conduct and Approvals and Authorities, twice a year, making recommendations for changes as appropriate;
  • Input into relevant group submissions and reports as required;
  • Manage one direct report;
  • Lead, on behalf of the team, finance readiness and other key strategic projects;
  • Manage the adherence of all finance obligations, for all contracts, across the finance department;
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across the team, driving efficiency and effectiveness;
  • Manage the internal audit process for the business, from the planning to resolution of action phases; and
  • Co-ordination of audit, tax and statutory account processes for other IAGL managed entities such as IAG Connect
  • Key skills and capabilities

  • Strong ACA or ACCA qualified accountant with a proven track record in financial and technical accounting, financial controls and managing finance readiness projects (end to end);
  • A good understanding of taxation (Corporation Tax and Value Added Tax);
  • Excellent verbal, written, numeracy and organisation skills
  • Ability to think strategically and work independently, seeking opportunities for change and improvement with a can do' / resolution based' attitude to make these a reality.
  • Able to adapt to new situations and responsibilities, demonstrating flexibility at all times in a fast pace environment;
  • Ability to influence at a senior level, drive best practice and develop strong working relationships across the various companies within the IAG Group, with the credibility and gravitas to challenge and help drive the business forward;
