An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Internal Audit team at the Cumberland. This is a new role within the department as it looks to further enhance its service proposition.
You’ll interact with the Cumberland's Senior Leaders and their teams. The Cumberland is undergoing an ambitious transformation programme with Internal Audit playing an important role by providing assurance over the activities across the organisation including new and emerging strategic deliverables.
We’re looking for strong business acumen and strategic thinking, as well as a deep understanding of risks and controls to influence senior management.

About The Role
As part of the Internal Audit team, assisting the Head of Internal Audit, you will take primary responsibility for engagement supervision of the department’s portfolio of risk themed audits whilst balancing timescales, budgetary and resource challenges to complete and deliver the plan as well as the wider development of Internal Audit s talent and capabilities, taking a leading role in the identification, scheduling, monitoring and cold file reviews of the department’s audit programme.
Understand the strategic, prudential, credit, operational, regulatory and conduct risks (and risk management processes) inherent across the Society and the effectiveness of the mitigating control environment that manages these risks.
Assume an active role in the development and maintenance of the audit universe and risk based audit plan, as well as in the development of engagement plans setting out the scope, objectives, risks and tests for internal audit assignments.
Take primary responsibility for engagement supervision and preparation of draft reports, and assume an active role in the discussion of remedial action plans with the appropriate level of management.
Deputise for the Head of Internal Audit when necessary.
Effectively applying risk-based planning methodology, support the Head of Internal Audit and the wider Internal Audit team in developing, monitoring, resourcing and continuously evolving, an overall audit plan that is flexible and responsive to the changing business environment.
Own and supervise the delivery of assigned portfolio of audits.
Support the Head of Internal Audit in building credible, partnership-based, relationships with key stakeholders and other assurance functions.
Act as focal point for building knowledge of audit themes across Internal Audit, using this knowledge to inform the effective targeting of Internal Audit effort to the key business risks.
Support the Head of Internal Audit in developing the team s talent and maximising its productivity. Ensure that quality conversations are held with those working on audit assignments with regard to goal-setting, performance appraisal and career development.
Coach and support colleagues within Internal Audit, and across the wider business, as an expert on internal control and risk management matters.
The ideal candidate will have :
Experience of undertaking audit reviews within a financial services context.
Knowledge of financial services and risk management.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in a 1 : 1 and group environment.
Proven relationship management skills, with a track record of engaging and influencing key stakeholders.
Demonstrable ability to adapt and deliver in a fast-moving commercial environment.
Relevant professional qualification (e.g. accounting, internal audit or risk).
Where you will work
Our aim is to keep the great balance we have achieved recently with home working. Whilst many of our roles are currently home based, in time we do hope to return to our Head Office at Cumberland House.
The successful candidate will therefore be willing to work remotely and in time return to work from Cumberland House as and when required.
