MLex Digital Transport Reporter

Global regulatory risk newswire MLex is looking for a reporter to cover a wide range of regulatory risks affecting the automotive and road transport sector, which is embarking on two momentous changes : the electrification of powertrains, and the rise of connectivity and autonomy.

Regulators in Brussels and beyond have prompted many of these developments, for example through emissions requirements, and are also responding to technological advances driven by the industry.

As the leading chronicler of regulatory risk around the world, from antitrust to privacy, MLex already covers many of the topics affecting carmakers and logistics companies.

We are seeking a reporter to expand our offering in this sector, working with our other journalists while also carving out his or her own area of coverage.

The role :

  • We are looking for an energetic journalist with experience of covering policymaking relevant to business. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a network of sources working on the wide range of policy areas relevant to the automotive sector;
  • deliver scoops and informed commentary on these subjects; and stay on top of diary developments across the board.

The candidate can and should benefit from working with other MLex reporters covering issues such as artificial intelligence, emissions requirements, and standard-essential patents.

At the same time, take ownership of the beat and work independently from day one.

While the role will be focused on EU regulations, the candidate will also be expected to follow major developments at the national level in Europe, including the UK.

There will be the opportunity to work with reporters in the US and several Asian bureaus.

As on other MLex beats, the automotive reporter will be responsible for covering the whole lifecycle of regulation, from when a policy is first proposed to when enforcement actions are challenged in court.

Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of and interest in the topic, experience relevant to the role, and the ability to write news clearly and concisely.

Fluent written and spoken English is essential; knowledge of other European languages is a bonus.

What we are looking for :

    Journalistic experience covering regulatory affairs

An interest in the topics relevant to the automotive sector

    News judgment and analytical skills

    Accurate writing and reporting standards

Ability to develop and maintain good relations with sources

    Independence and initiative

Disposition to collaborate with colleagues and share bylines

    Excellent written and spoken English

    Ideally, other European language skills
