Cambridge University Library is one of the world's great research libraries. The Library is a major scholarly resource, not only for the University's academic community, but also for researchers nationally and internationally.
Cambridge University Library has been collecting books and manuscripts since the 14th century and now has one of the greatest and most accessible collections of books and manuscripts in the world.
As a legal deposit library for over 300 years, the University Library also has comprehensive holdings of UK publications, as well as extensive special collections built up over several centuries.
The role-holder will join the Digital Innovation and Software development team, focusing on delivering projects as part of an ambitious multi-
year Digital transformation programme with the primary goals of expose and aid discovery of the rich research resources and implementing Digital preservation infrastructure and services to ensure long-
term access. The Software development team also has wider responsibilities including the development of the Digital Library, deliveries of digital humanities projects and other activities spanning the breath of the UL's activities.
The primary responsibility of the role holder is the implementation of the new Archival Management System and a new discovery and access system, both are key components of the Digital landscape alongside the Digital Library.
The role-holder will be part of the project team(s), interacting with other developers, operational, project manager(s), archivists and academics.
It is expected that the role will overlap into the Digital Preservation project(s) which is an exciting and challenging new area for the Library, focusing on digitisation workflows and born-digital archives.
The successful candidate will have a wide ranging technical skillsets ranging from Unix technical skills, a full-stack development background with modern languages and techniques, with strong reasoning and analytical skills.
