Role Purpose

  • An exciting role has opened for a movitated and adaptable individual to work within our Edinburgh management team as a Business Manager .
  • Global Data Services is a shared service within Global Banking & markets, with the mission of providing timely, compliant and cost effective reference and market data services globally.
  • Encompassing the provision of instrument / pricing data to the global customer base including GM, HSS, Private Bank and RBWM, as well as the management of vendor data spend.

    GDS currently operates from six global locations i.e. London, New York, Scotland, Bangalore, Colombo and Hong Kong with circa 390 staff.

  • The primary objective of the business manager role is to support the Senior Business Manager (SBM) in enhancing organisational effectiveness of the GDS function through the definition, management and evolution of the global GDS framework.
  • The role involves supporting the SBM on a mix of strategic and BAU activities encompassing :

  • Strategic planning
  • Financial management
  • Stakeholder management
  • Leadership, teamwork & communication
  • Operational effectiveness & control
  • GDS is currently implementing a significant change programme across its locations and products globally. There is significant regulatory and market change which should be understood to ensure compliance with the requirements.
  • The Business Manager will work in a matrix support structure providing regional and global coordination on BAU activities, project tracking and strategic initiatives.

    Strategic Planning, Coordination & Financial Management

  • Strategy & Planning : Support and coordination in the strategic planning process, ensuring consistency of structure and KPIs across geographies for the achievement of strategic goals, and initiatives.
  • Provide leadership in maintaining balanced scorecards across geographies, ensuring there is line of sight with the annual strategic plan.

  • Financial Management : Ensure the financial health of GDS through definition and management of the GDS financial budgeting, planning, tracking and cost allocation framework for GDS.
  • Define processes through documentation (where absent) and ensure any new requests are managed within thedefined process and timelines.

  • Support in developing and managing the roadmap to support the strategy, driving and tracking progress against it by establishing and agreeing departmental strategic goals to achieve the stated objectives and business benefits.
  • Work with the relevant stakeholders to develop and maintain business cases and manage approval process for strategic initiatives and spend
  • Provide cross-functional management support and coordination of various initiatives on behalf of the Business Management team.
  • Support preparation of the Annual Operating Plan for GDS, with ongoing management, approvals and tracking of expense and plan.
  • Customers / Stakeholders

  • Maintain network of contacts within GDS as well as infrastructure and support partners (HR, Finance, IT etc.) and leverage these in supporting the GDS strategy and realization
  • Support the Senior Business Manager in people initiatives includingengagement, headcount approvals and management.
  • Leadership & Teamwork

  • Facilitate the delivery of GDS Communications Plan for global GDS staff & preparation of materials.
  • Promote effective communication with team members onstrategy, objectives and key goals required for the respective roles and responsibilities
  • Support the SBM in producing high quality communication packs for internal and external use.
  • Ensure effective organizational linkagesat appropriate level on the client and support side (HR,Finance etc)
  • Support in preparing material for town halls, newsletters etc.
  • Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Own the development and co-ordination of the headcount management, reconciliation and reporting process globally across GDS.
  • Own the annual planning & budgeting process.
  • Own the production of the monthly GDS P&L reporting process.
  • Manage approvals for headcount increases and recruitment for SBM.
  • Manage approvals for recruitment.
  • Ensure organisation charts are up to date and refreshed.
  • Project management : Own and deliver ad hoc projects and requests ranging from client side queries on cost allocations to creating and documenting process maps, preparing audit responses etc.
  • Local Job Requirements

  • This role sits within the Global Data Services function in Edinburgh and reports directly to the Global Head of Business Management.
  • The individual will need to be able to work on solutions with minimal guidance. Support will be available and required for decision making.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

  • Experience working in a similar role PMO Experience is desirable.
  • Good analytical skills Outstanding Excel and PowerPoint skills essential.
  • Highly energetic and self-motivated.
  • Appetite for ambiguity and changing landscape and priorities.
  • Ability to plan and organise workload, taking into account relative priorities. Demonstrates good project management skills.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Strong relationship and communication skills.
  • Accounting degree / Masters in Finance / MBA (Finance) beneficial
  • Strong knowledge of multiple asset classes, global financial markets and trading and securities operations.
  • A willingness and desire to continuously learn about new techniques and to acquire new knowledge.
  • Strong inclination for innovation and new ways of doing things.
