About us

We are a uniformed service, within the Neighbourhood Services & Transport directorate of the Vale of Glamorgan Council and are responsible for enforcing both civil and criminal legislation.

This legislation ranges from Civil Parking Enforcement (as defined by the Traffic Management Act 2004) to investigating and prosecuting environmental crimes, as well as those involving bye-laws, certain aspects of anti-social behaviour, highways offences, Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) and ad hoc enforcement for other council departments.

Our objective is to maintain the free-flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, within the Vale of Glamorgan and to provide a safe and clean environment for residents, businesses and visitors to the Vale.

About the role

Pay Details : Grade 7, SCP 20-25, £26,446 - £30,095

Hours of Work / Working Pattern : 37 hrs per week

Main Place of Work : The Alps Depot

Description :

To oversee the enforcement of environmental criminal offences, PSPO’s, bye-laws, Civil Parking Enforcement and the non-compliance of Council policies and orders.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a team of Enforcement Officers and have particular responsibility for the allocation of resources, rotas and supervising officers on patrol.

About you

  • An understanding of the Neighbourhood Services provided by the Local Authority.
  • An understanding of environmental legislation
  • Good communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to prepare witness statements and files for prosecution
  • Ability to accept responsibility for staff and resources
  • Practical attitude for dealing with complaints
  • Ability to accept responsibility for staff and resources
  • Compliance experience
  • Good standard of education
  • A related Supervisory qualification or 2 years’ relevant experience
  • Able to work alone or in groups
  • A competent Supervisor with the ability to motivate a small team
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to motivate and communicate effectively with staff and members of the public
  • Ability to drive / travel throughout the Vale or between locations as appropriate
  • Full EC Driving Licence
  • Be prepared to work irregular hours to meet the needs of the service including weekend and bank holiday working on a shift rota, which is an essential requirement.
