Redgate makes software to help companies and professionals get the most out of their databases (our heritage and primary focus is the Microsoft ecosystem).
We engineer our products and business to work for the mass market, which gives us the freedom to work on what everyone needs, not what an individual wants.
We succeed by reliably solving our customers’ problems with ingeniously simple software.
We believe that the best way to do this is by engaging small teams with clear purpose, freedom to act and a drive to learn.
Based at our offices in Cambridge (UK) you’ll work in a small cross-functional team consisting of a Tech Lead, Designer and 4-
6 software engineers. You’ll be supported by a development lead (who helps teams with people and process), a product manager (who helps set direction) and a coaching function (who help you get unblocked).
A strong technical foundation is necessary (but not enough!). As a senior engineer you should have breadth and depth of experience.
You should be able to confidently solve gnarly problems with clean and simple solutions.
It’s not just the technical skills. An essential part of being a senior engineer is growing others. This could be by a combination of mentoring / coaching / teaching, or it could be by sharing your experience with others (conversations, lightning talks etc.).
One of Redgate’s core beliefs is that small teams do great things, so senior engineers must be team players. They should recognise the feelings of others and adapt their approach.
They should be the person that others want to work with. They should have strong opinions but always be willing to change direction based on other ideas or new evidence.
Sometimes decisions will be made that people disagree with if that happens it’s important to disagree and commit to the new course of action.
Finally, senior engineers should be accountable. They should be able to deputise for the tech lead, lead significant parts of work and contribute to the wider processes of Redgate.
As a senior engineer you can be relied upon to do what you’ll say you’ll do.
