We’re looking for a motivated VAT Manager to join our global indirect tax team in supporting Expedia’s Partner Solutions ( EPS ) business.
EPS helps to bring millions of travelers together with millions of properties through enabling travel partners to offer Expedia travel rates through their own platforms.
The VAT Manager will be key player on the global indirect tax team based in London, UK.
The successful candidate will report to the Director and be responsible for advising a range of business stakeholders. Strong written and verbal communications skills are vital to explain complex concepts and to ensure the business implements to the right advice.
The ideal candidate will develop a deep understanding of global business operations, financial results, and intercompany relationships and will work closely with the Finance, Legal, Accounting, and Financial Systems / Technology teams on the implementation of automated and scalable VAT processes and systems solutions for Expedia’s ecommerce travel platform.
The VAT Manager will be part of a growing team of 15 VAT professionals worldwide.
What you’ll do :
Partnering and providing VAT advice and operational guidance to EPS’s business stakeholders, and working cross functionally with finance, treasury, legal teams, and external advisers on significant business and VAT impacts that are relevant to the group.
Assist the public policy and business teams in defining and implementing appropriate strategies and solutions in response to new digital economy VAT rules applicable to our B2B business lines.
Assist in the implementation of automated and scalable VAT processes and systems to support Expedia’s rapid international growth and to allow the business to quickly respond to the evolving digital economy VAT legislation.
Research and document Expedia’s VAT technical positions relating to EPS’s global business operations. Identify and implement required processes, VAT control and compliance changes, and improvements.
Review intercompany and third-party contracts and make recommendations on tax clauses to agreements
Manage and consult with external tax advisors on EPS’s business operations and the impact of new tax legislation, tax court decisions and administrative rulings to identify impacts on EPS’s existing VAT processes and systems arising from these changes.
Manage and direct VAT aspects of tax audits
Who you are :
A passion for travel and ecommerce technology platforms.
Experience including with public accounting or law firms. Industry experience in the technology or travel sector is preferred.
Global VAT / GST experience
Experience with implementing automated VAT business processes and controls would be very desirable.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and quickly adapt to change and desire to learn
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to distill complex VAT technical issues into simple concepts that business partners can understand and help operationalize.
A proven track record of collaborating and delivering results working as part of a cross functional team both in the local office and with the global organization.
