Job IntroductionBBC Studios Natural History Unit is the home to global & international productions. The NHU produces a broad range of award winning series, from technically challenging live shows, features based documentaries and super-
landmark series such as Blue Planet II and Blue Planet Live, Springwatch, Dynasties and Deadly Dinos.Talent retention and development has been identified as one of the key priorities and challenges for the Natural History Unit.
With ambitious growth and commercial targets there is a requirement for the NHU to have a dedicated Business role to work alongside the NHU leadership team, providing them with operational support across key activities related to the retention of the best mix of diverse teams.
This role will require a strategic insight of the business & understanding of the development pipeline, ensuring that we allocate the best talent to the roles from the finite specialist talent base available.
Reporting to the Head of Production for the NHU, with activity focused on staffing priorities in support of the divisions KPIs and business plan objectives, ensuring the that the NHU have the best workforce mix of staff and freelancers so that they continue to make creatively stand-
out content which reflects the diversity of the audience. Role ResponsibilityWorking alongside the NHU leadership teams in maintaining a highly engaged workforce.
Ensure the most effective use of in-house talent, maximising opportunities with teams, ensuring we recover all staff costs to programmes.
Working with productions to ensure key internal talent is developed and progressedUnderstand the skills and talent of internal staff so they are utilised efficiently and effectively.
Working with the NHU Leaders in identifying skills shortages and training and development needs, and working with the teams to put in place appropriate training and support.
Operational lead on headcount management and monitoring of service history risk and managing downtime across the large & complex portfolio.
Proactively share workforce data and updates with internal stakeholders (Head of Production, Production Executives, Exec Producers, Series Producers, Producers, Line Producers, Accountants, etc.
Work closely with Talent Executives to understand and share knowledge about the external talent market, ensuring the long term needs of the business are known and shared.
Manage the processes of staffing, in some areas acting as the hiring manager for the productions by supporting the approval processes and business cases and working closely with HR.
Work closely with productions and HR as appropriate to ensure any issues with internal talent are identified.Working with the leadership team to support the strategic planning of NHU talent, aligning it with the business plan.
Advising the senior group on staffing solutions that match the business objectives and vision.Support the delivery of unit initiatives and events to ensure good communication with our talent.
The Ideal CandidateA key requirement is experience of the processes and requirements of complex productions.Be experienced in working in a fast pace production environment.
Familiarity with HR processes and policy in the BBCHave experience of change management.Excellent communication and inter-
personal skills with a good understanding of customer requirements.Experience of meeting deadlines and operating successfully in a fast paced, constantly changing, production environment.
