Private Client Tax Services
Many individuals seek help with their taxes whether it is due to lack of time, the complexity of the annual tax return process or to find tax efficient strategies.
Whatever the reason, we can help individuals from all walks of life with all the tax issues they may face. We can deal with compliance obligations and reporting requirements while also offering high level planning advice on a domestic and international level.
Purpose of role :
Manage the compliance and tax advice process for a client allocation. Supervise tax staff assisting with client work and deal with technical and administrative issues.
Key responsibilities :
Client Work :
Prepare more complex Grade A tax returns
Review basic Grade B / C tax returns
Manage HMRC enquiries
Responsibility for compliance work on clients
Prepare complex tax computations
Supervise preparation of simple tax computations
Monitor time limits and elections for compliance portfolio
Draft or review HMRC correspondence
Prepare technical research
Prepare reports for clients in relation ad hoc advisory matters
Contribute at client meetings
Responsible for billing and monitoring budgets
Delegate tasks and review work from Trainees / Seniors
Provide feedback for Trainees appraisals
Training & Development :
Prepare technical training sessions
Maintain technical knowledge
Attend internal training sessions
Ensure relevant client deadlines are met
Ensure Smith & Williamson procedures are adhered to
Responsible for some departmental administrative tasks
Assist the partners with fee quotes and growing the business
With a formalised departmental and firm-wide program, develop contacts with firm and externally

Key Competencies :
Planning and Organising : must be able to plan workload in order to prioritise work to meet conflicting deadlines and cope with pressure
Written and verbal communication : good written communication skills are necessary to draft correspondence with clients and HMRC to explain technical issues in an easily understandable manner.
Must have good inter-personal skills to be able to liaise with clients and other staff members
Customer Focus : meeting deadlines and responding to client needs
Team work : provide link in chain to supervise staff members below and support partners and senior managers above
Technical Expertise : maintain technical knowledge obtained from exam qualifications
Education / Qualifications :
Professionally Qualified CTA, ACA or equivalent qualification
Key Experience / Skills :
Significant experience gained within a professional services firm
Technical knowledge to include CGT, IHT, business tax aspects. Non-resident, non-domicile and partnership experience will be useful
Ability to write letters explaining complicated planning issues as well as verbal communication skills
Computer literate using a range of applications / programmes ideally including Digita software
Some tax advisory experience preferable but not essential
Starting to gain staff management / mentoring / supervisory experience
Evidence of managing a small client portfolio desirable
