    Overview of role

    London Underground is one of the world’s most famous metro systems and is responsible for more than 3.5 million passenger journeys a day.

    It has 11 lines covering 402km and serving 270 stations. During peak hours, more than 500 trains are in operation.

    We have an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Manager to manage resources, specifically financial, human and material to exceed the Fleet KPI’s in terms of safety, availability and customer service whilst reducing wastage.

    You will also provide leadership, direction, coaching and delegation direction to a team of operational employees and continuously develop and performance manage individuals to realise their potential.

    Key Accountabilities :

  • Plan and organise the allocation of rolling stock to ensure the timetable service and maintenance requirements are met. This includes the movement of trains within the depot limits.
  • Manage the In-Service’ performance of the rolling stock throughout the traffic day.
  • Control, monitor and better the budgetary targets where practical.
  • Accountable for the short planning and implementation of long term plans, to maximise the use of resources and minimise wastage.
  • Manage, develop and maintain high standards of employee performance and productivity. Motivate teams to be proactive in achieving targets.
  • Manage and administer the Company disciplinary and grievance processes; the time and attendance policy and consult with senior management and local trade union representatives to ensure that the employees in the jobholders care are treated in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Manage and review the team and individual performance, competencies and work methods as part of a continuous development process and to ensure that business values and goals are met.
  • Outside of normal business hours the jobholder is accountable for all local landlord responsibilities.
  • Professional management of the communication and co-operation with internal / external customers. To ensure events / problems / issues are resolve effectively and efficiently.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of maintenance information of all operational data generated on their shift.

  • Ability to read and accurately interpret technical documentation (Essential)
  • Professional technical or managerial qualifications (Desirable)
  • Knowledge

  • A detailed knowledge of rolling stock equipment, construction and control systems (Essential)
  • Knowledge of budget control mechanisms (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of procedures for dealing with, and management of major incidents is (Essential)
  • A demonstrable knowledge of employment and health and safety legislation (Essential)
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of company policies regarding time and attendance, disciplinary and grievance procedures (Essential)
  • Knowledge of Work Order Management Process (Desirable)
  • Experience

  • Experience working at a supervisory level within an operational environment (Essential)
  • A proven track record of organisational and people-management experience (Essential)
  • Professional technical or managerial qualifications (Desirable)
