Role Responsibility

Assist Adoption Social Workers in their role of supporting adoptive families. Will involve working alongside the social work teams to provide support to individual families, support the delivery of training and workshops and other forms of support.

A key role will be to provide oversight of therapeutic interventions provided by external providers.


Provide oversight of therapeutic intervention provided by external providers to ensure the funding acquired through the Adoption Support Fund (ASF) is being provided as per the commissioning agreement.

Support families receiving a service from external providers to ensure they feel appropriately supported by the external provider.

Provide support to adoptive families, working alongside the social workers in the adoption teams, to understand their adoption journey and positive relationships.

Support the delivery of workshops and other forms of group support, to facilitate awareness and offer adoptive parents to meet with each other.

Advise adoptive parents offering guidance and signposting, where appropriate, to other agencies who may be able to offer additional support to enable them to achieve identified outcomes.

Advise on practical childcare and parenting skills, including how to meet the emotional needs of children, e.g., setting boundaries and consistent discipline.

Respond in a time of need to provide specific and intensive support to adoptive families.

Maintain accurate records on the case management system to ensure it reflects activity and intervention.

Produce and collate written reports and contribute to meetings and adoption support reviews as required to assist in the planning and review of the needs of children and parents under supervision of the Adoption Social Worker.

To attend Access to Resource Panel as necessary with the Adoption Social Worker.

Develop and nurture good working relationships with families, therapeutic providers, and other key professionals that we interact with.

Assist in recruiting, training, and supporting adopters alongside facilitating support groups and group meetings.

Assist Adoption Social Workers with office duties to ensure information is uploaded and recorded on the childs case record and on other databases, as required.

Attend regular supervision and staff meeting and undertake training as required to develop the post holders own skills in helping adopters and adopted children.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English / Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
