Due to continued growth, our client are looking for a commercially astute Estimating Manager to lead the Estimating team and ensure the estimating processes are followed.

Your main objective will be to ensure each bid is both competitive and profitable. Reporting to the Estimating & Bids Manager, you will identify and secure key strategic commercial opportunities to deliver budgeted volumes, margin expectations and growth.

You will also manage, support and guide the commercial estimating team to ensure that robust tenders are submitted on time to the highest quality and won.


  • Report on progress and issues as required by B&E Manager
  • Manage and support Estimating team, e.g. undertake estimating work during busy periods, approve holidays and leave, etc.
  • Set and review personal objectives for the team
  • Train and develop the team, e.g. in the use of estimating systems
  • Co-ordinate the team effort with colleagues from across the business, preparing and submitting accurately costed and competitive bids
  • Ensure tender documentation is received, checked and handled in line with company procedures, maintaining the enquiry tracking database, including allocation of enquiry and contract numbers
  • Implement, review and improve our estimating processes and directives on margin and resource costs
  • Ensure Estimators compile the price in a thorough, logical and consistent manner, and ensure the finalised estimate is properly signed off in accordance with governance procedures
  • Attend meetings with the Construction, Commercial or Design teams as required both during and post tender
  • Provide the Commercial team with information and support so they can agree final terms and sign off on the contract
  • Ensure risk and opportunities are identified and properly evaluated in the estimate
  • Coach the estimators on pricing practice and guidelines
  • Review and update of rates (OHP, L, P & M) with B&E Manager
  • Review and support the business to finalise and implement appropriate estimating software and database

  • Make sound decisions, assessing situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organisation
  • Can manage own and others’ time setting priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track activity
  • Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions and / or resolve the problem

  • Clean Driving Licence (required)
  • Good IT skills, fully familiar with Microsoft Office and related packages (required)
  • Substantial experience of working in a similar role and industry (required)
  • Higher level (HNC or degree) qualification in construction, engineering or related disciplines (required)
  • Membership of the RICS or ICE (desirable)
