Job Description

Please note this is a Fixed Term Contract until December 2022.

Working hours are 4 Nights on, 4 Nights off. The hours will fall between 10pm-8am.

To carry out high throughput COVID Testing, working flexibly and communicating effectively to deliver results within contractual turnaround times and to the highest quality standards within the Eurofins, site.

The Medical Lab Assistant will be expected to set an example of quality, productivity and good laboratory practice to all staff.

  • To prepare samples for analysis using the current Blood Science laboratory protocol, to assist Biomedical Scientists in maintenance and preparation of equipment
  • To help maintain adequate levels of reagents and consumables, laboratory cleaning duties and dispose of waste.
  • To be helpful and provide profession service to all visitors and telephone callers under the direction of qualified Biomedical Scientists
  • To assist in areas of Quality Management as necessary.
  • To receive blood samples, sort and identify specimens received.
  • Enter test results on the laboratory computer system and preparation of samples for analysis under supervision of the BMS(s).
  • Use and operate equipment such as centrifuges, automated equipment, pipettes and computer terminals in accordance to the laboratory SOPs.
  • Register patient details and tests required on the laboratory computer.
  • Prepare samples where appropriate for analysis.
  • Work within the departmental good laboratory practice, health and safety policy and code of conduct and maintain health and safety standards.
  • Maintain laboratory and ensure workbenches are clean and tidy.
  • Safely handle and dispose of blood, urine or other body tissues or hazardous chemicals.
  • Prepare solutions and reagents. Clean and sterilise laboratory, equipment, shelves, bench tops and sinks.
  • Qualifications

  • A science degree within a relevant field is desirable.
  • Previous laboratory experience desirable.
  • Previous work experience within a high throughput, highly regulated laboratory desirable.
  • Experience in automated equipment is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
