The Opportunity

Hinkley Point C (HPC) has a number of permanent Senior Project Manager roles to be based at Bridgewater House in Bristol initially, in future the roles will then move to the HPC Site at Hinkley Point, Somerset.

These Area Senior Project Manager (Area SPM) roles are within the Mechanical, Electrical and HVAV (MEH) Programme and report to the MEH Deputy Programme Director.

They are responsible for the direction and leadership of all activities associated with the delivery of work within a particular area of the Site / Buildings on HPC Site.

Capital value would typically be over £100m, but could be up to £300m for each role. They will ensure the integration of Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction planning, and coordination of all works within the particular Area.

Day to day :

These posts are responsible for ensuring the delivery of the Task Orders which will be placed with the MEH Alliance - the Alliance is formed from HPC, JV companies and strategic suppliers, and covers the full scope of the MEH programme.

Ensuring work is planned and delivered in accordance with all safety, quality, time and cost parameters to meet the needs of the Project.

The nature of the roles is to ensure the effective delivery of activities in the MEH programme, while recognising and managing the impacts on the wider Project.

The Area SPM is responsible for the delivery of a specific set of activities to time, cost, safety and quality including the day to day management of specific Task Orders, or elements within Task Orders and the L3, L4 schedule (Detailed Control Schedules) which provide detailed weekly and monthly work execution sequences.

The Level 3 and 4 schedules are utilised by external organisations responsible for work execution to better define logistic sequencing and internal organisational hand-offs.

The Person

Leadership is crucial as the Area SPM will be required to establish and lead a diverse project team to deliver activities within their Area of responsibility.

The role also has a critical interface with the MEH Alliance, both strategically and operationally, this being unique to project management within the MEH Programme.

  • Define the work scope to be delivered within the geographical area / buildings on the HPC Site, based on the contract or package of work and the interfaces to the other elements of the programme.
  • Collaborate with the MEH Alliance to define and agree the tasks orders within the particular area, noting that the task orders will cut across multiple contracts and subcontracts.
  • Securing the required resources to meet their project requirements, ensuring the maintenance of SQEP for any assigned resource and promptly identifying any personnel shortfalls or issues within their project team.
  • Developing and delivering effective execution strategies and plans in line with the overall programme execution plan (PEP), setting out how the programme of work will be managed, organised and executed.
  • Maintaining effective communications with all stakeholders and executing the project or PEP strategies within their Area of work.

  • Drive the delivery of the activities contained within the task order, ensuring that outputs are delivered safely, on time, to budget, meeting business & technical requirements.
  • Monitor and manage the progress of works - track progress against milestones, deadlines, budget and provide key stakeholders with reports on these matters.

  • Anticipate, manage and resolve issues within the task order. Identify risks and facilitate the resolution.
  • Work closely with the Alliance to ensure level 3 schedules are developed and maintained for the work areas. Ensure such schedules are consistent with overall Project schedules (levels 1 and level 2).
  • Escalate any discrepancies to the Project Controls Director.

  • Interface with other programmes to ensure that handoffs between programmes is well developed, understood and managed.
  • The Skills

    You will have a track record of delivering large scale projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.

    You will need to :

  • Demonstrate success in managing / developing :
  • o Field execution strategies for project delivery,

    o Multi-discipline EPCM projects,

    o Procurement and management of complex contracts, or working as part of an Alliance / JV

    o Control of costs; risk; schedule and change and proficient in the use of Earned Value tools,

    o Able to demonstrate strong management skills including project management, financial management, change management and facilitation.

    Proficient in the use of estimating scheduling, programming and risk tools.

  • Detailed understanding of PWR design and experience in PWR operations.
  • Degree and chartered status in an engineering, construction, physics or other related field.
  • Have experience of working with a UK supply chain.
  • Can demonstrate experience of managing project through the project lifecycle from concept to handover.
