About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a General assistant to join our Rail team to work in Colchester.

  • To ensure the stores and depot facilities are fit for the purpose of maintaining on track machines.
  • What you'll be doing

    As, General assistant , you will be responsible for the following : -

    General assistant

  • Loading and unloading of stores;
  • Receiving and counting in deliveries, manual handling and use of pallet trucks;
  • Receipting goods into stock;
  • Booking materials out of stock;
  • Maintaining Coins inventory data;
  • Processing and place purchase orders;
  • Managing and deliver stores across all machines;
  • Managing and deliver PPE to accountable depots;
  • Machine tool checks and ordering;
  • Good general handyman skills for repair issues on depot;
  • Good housekeeping, keeping all none office buildings and depot clean and tidy;
  • Promote safety;
  • Managing the welfare facilities;
  • Ensuring depot mess rooms are kept up to standard;
  • Ensuring depot notice boards are up to date;
  • Machine inspections;
  • Holding consistent / accurate records in the inventory system;
  • Daily depot inspections;
  • Stores audit records.
  • Who we're looking for

    The following qualities / experience are essential :

  • Full clean driving licence;
  • Computer literate;
  • A good understanding of stores practices;
  • An appreciation of stock control systems;
  • Handyman skills;
  • Able to work using their own initiative.
