We have an opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join our team at Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater, Somerset.

This is an exciting time to join the G4S Facilities Management Team at Hinkley Point C. We are three years into our ten year contract, working on the largest construction site in Europe.

The first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years; Hinkley Point C in Somerset will provide low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.

Construction and operation of Hinkley Point C will create 25,000 employment opportunities, up to 1,000 apprenticeships and 64% of the project’s construction value is predicted to go to UK companies.

There are currently over 4,000 workers on site.

This is a full time role working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday. The salary for this role is £49,000 - £52,000 per annum.

In addition, you will also receive a Company Car or Car Allowance.

As Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that the commercial and financial management activities on a key customer account are carried out effectively and in accordance with (NEC3 based) contractual requirements and company policies and procedures.

Activities to be delivered within the environment of a complex and fast-paced multi-billion pound nuclear infrastructure programme.

You will need to work closely with Operational Management and The Customer and regularly liaise with a range of wider internal and external programme stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities of this role are :

  • Leading delivery against NEC3 commercial management requirements, including :
  • Preparation of accurate cost plus accounting information and invoices under NEC3 Pricing Options C & E
  • Working closely with The Customer and Operational Management to review, manage and / or deliver NEC3 processes and contractual mechanisms including : Task Orders, Payment Assessments, Payment Options & Price List, Compensation Events, Early Warnings and Service Manager Instructions.
  • Day to day management of commercial processes on CEMAR (NEC3 contract management system).
  • Lead on developing, compiling and distributing contract performance reporting for both internal and external users.
  • Provide contractual and commercial advice to Operational Management to support on matters such as : key commercial risks & mitigations, key contractual rights & obligations, revenue enhancement and cost control opportunities
  • Lead on protecting the business’ commercial position on any material contractual disputes, working closely with the Legal and Operational Teams, including : delivering commercial analysis, developing and recommending commercial strategy and plan, planning and execution of that commercial plan
  • Negotiate to given boundaries, solo or in conjunction with other stakeholders, and communicate outcomes and any operational or commercial actions to relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide assurance to the business that the commercial / contractual imperatives on the contract are being adhered to and that risks are being appropriately identified and managed.
  • Advise on, and review the ongoing performance of suppliers against commercial terms at the account level in collaboration with the Regional procurement function
  • Mobilisation and Demobilisation :

    Advise on, and review the procurement and selection of suppliers at account and business level. Provide the commercial interface between G4S FM and Regional procurement function

    Ensure that all commercial aspects of the contract are understood by the contract team and that owned plans are in place for ensuring the successful commercial outcomes on the contract.

    Bidding / Variations / Project Works :

    Attain a detailed understanding of the contractual documentation, working with business development, legal, operations, finance etc to ensure that the commercial terms are well understood and bid strategies are in place for dealing with risks and converting entitlements

    Manage and produce commercial cost models and commercial responses to required standards

    Gain G4S stakeholder approval to the commercial positions proposed, such as Group Legal and Senior Management and any external Advisors.

    Commercial Close / Governance :

    Act as Commercial Lead to ensure commercial position and pricing / costs are established and risk mitigation strategy is clearly developed.

    Co-ordinate the contract’s commercial responses and ensure these closed off contractually on financial close

    Provide leadership to team members and ensure clarity is provided on focus areas to deliver against the business and commercial objectives

    Work with individuals to understand their career aspirations and development areas, ensuring that they are provided with the coaching and support to enable them to position themselves for their next roles.

    The Ideal Candidate :

    Essential Requirements are :

    Degree level or equivalent

    Demonstrable commercial technical knowledge and experience

    Experience of NEC contracts

    Proven ability to successfully negotiate on high value at stake issues

    Proven dispute resolution process experience

    A strategic thinker with strong commercial awareness, excellent interpersonal awareness and influencing skills and a target / profit driven attitude with a focus on delivering results

    Understanding of NEC Contract Payment Applications
