Core Accountabilities Civil & Infrastructure Engineering

General :

  • Manage information transfer and alignment with technical and operational owners
  • Manage and co-ordinate responses to technical queries
  • Be familiar with, and compliant with, relevant health and safety regulations and promoting a culture of health and safety awareness within the team
  • Occasionally perform other duties and tasks as required from time to time by Engineering lead, AM Senior Leadership or external parties
  • Run and manage Civil & Infrastructure engineering portfolio governance and reporting in order to track progress, identify project risks and make decisions across Rail improvement works, Port expansion, dam construction and other relevant Civil & Infrastructure work
  • Comply with all aspects of AM Mining and AML departmental policies and values including the AM Code of Conduct.
  • Technical :

  • Ensure solution driven Civil & Infrastructure work programs for the 15Mtpa Expansion Project in Liberia are executed and that the deliverables meet or exceed AM Mining Capital Investment Standards for the project.
  • Develop Civil & Infrastructure work scopes and solutions for the 30Mtpa Expansion Project in Liberia to ensure that deliverables meet or exceed AM Mining Capital Investment Standards.
  • Lead and participate in 15Mtpa Expansion Project Health, Safety, Environment and Community representation and activities for the Civil & Infrastructure solution work scope.
  • Participate and lead civil engineering process and procedures representation and activities management in conjunction with Asset leadership.
  • In particular, HAZID, HAZOP and HAZAN studies and all technical peer reviews

  • Ensure expandable, solution driven Civil & Infrastructure work programs for AM Mining Assets are executable and the deliverables meet or exceed AM Mining Capital Investment Standards and are in line with best available Civil & Infrastructure methodologies and frameworks.
  • Implement enterprise-wide risk management requirements
  • Own any technical risk items related to Civil & Infrastructure work and drive mitigation plans
  • Ensure all feasible Civil & Infrastructure related options are discussed, evaluated and dealt with appropriately
  • Ensure business evaluation is robust and reflects the range of feasible Civil & Infrastructure outcomes
  • Stakeholder co-ordination and management

  • Facilitate co-ordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective site and offshore stakeholder alignment so that all Civil & Infrastructure dependencies and considerations are understood and incorporated into planning.
  • Ensure alignment with project PMO, project controls and other planning teams to support accurate reporting and progress tracking at a project level.
  • Ensure alignment with project execution teams (, construction) to ensure any Civil & Infrastructure related considerations or implications are adhered to.
  • Work with procurement to ensure relevant Civil & Infrastructure packages (contractors, equipment, consumables) are sourced as per technical specification requirements and project schedule requirements.
  • Support procurement in RFP / RFQ processes to support decision making process on vendor selection for relevant packages where required.
  • Work with finance to ensure relevant Civil & Infrastructure budgeting and actual costs aligned with financial reporting systems and processes.
  • Be familiar with scope of work of relevant external consultants and contractors and where ownership assigned, manage their deliverables and ensure quality of output meets or exceeds expectations.
  • Manage, mentor and develop junior resources
  • Strategy and planning

  • Participate in reviewing and developing Investment Approval Requests (IARs) & associated presentation material for technical peer reviews and owners IAC endorsement and capital sanctioning processes
  • Develop aligned rationales for toll gating / holding individual projects
  • Develop the investment rationale and IARs for asset expansions and sustaining capital projects.
  • Manage information transfer with technical and operational owners
  • Develop fit for purpose position papers and associated presentations to respond to strategic Civil & Infrastructure issues raised by technical and operational owners.
  • Develop a regular Civil & Infrastructure briefing pack for technical, operational and executive owners
  • Develop Asset based overall Civil & Infrastructure growth pipeline and program execution plan to match production expansion programs (30Mtpa Program for Liberia)
  • Specific focus on actions to preserve option for rapid delivery of major scope components including identification of constraints and actions to remove them in an orderly fashion
  • Consideration of commercial and delivery strategies
  • Development of asset 5 year Civil & Infrastructure plans (where required)
  • Qualifications :
  • Civil Engineering Degree along with +10 years post-Graduate technical experience
  • Ideally supported by Engineering chartership
  • Additional industrial management qualifications advantageous
  • Experience & Technical Competencies :

    At least 10 years relevant experience in leading and delivering large capital projects (Total Installed Cost >

    $250M) civil or infrastructure projects in execution or into execution through a Front End Loading’ process in the mining sector that includes concept, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.

  • Specific skills required for this position

    Computer Skills :

  • Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications.

  • Confident communicator with senior management and external stakeholders / vendors
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills.
