  • The Economics team at Jacobs is nearly 70 strong and spread throughout the UK. We undertake consultancy work for both public and private sector clients, covering research projects to inform policy development along with economic appraisal to inform decision making at all levels;
  • policy, plans and projects. We work closely with colleagues across the company to ensure an integrated approach to sustainability is applied on all projects.

  • We are looking for an experienced Economist to join the team at a Principal Consultant level, with proven experience in the leadership and technical delivery of projects, and management of activities involving one or more of the following;
  • economic appraisal, demand forecasting, cost benefit analysis, and operating cost forecasting.

    The right individual for this key leadership role will help to develop our business further and deliver projects for key clients -

    including Transport for London, Department for Transport, Highways England, Financiers and Transport Operators. Key projects include high-

    profile rail franchising Technical Advisor roles for DfT, Crossrail 2 business case development for TfL and the economic and transport case for the £5 billion Lower Thames Crossing highways project -

    and a range of private finance projects.

    Key Responsibilities :

    Deliver economic appraisals, cost benefit analysis and operational cost forecasting for our transportation industry clients

    Deliver financial and economic advisory services on both buy- and sell-side of rail & other transportation industry transactions

    Technical project leader, with frequent client interaction as the key point of contact

    Maintenance and development of client relationships

    Developing business and winning work from key clients, particularly in the private sector / transaction space

    Coaching and management of junior and mid-level staff

    Essential :

  • Strong academic economics training
  • Significant experience of leading and delivering economics and forecasting activities within the transportation industry, including rail franchising and transactional due diligence
  • Proven understanding of transportation industry standard approaches to economic appraisal and forecasting including WebTAG, Wider Economic Benefit (WEBs) and PDFH
  • Developed and performed analysis with Land Use Transportation Interaction models
  • Highly numerate, with strong track record in developing / managing complex spreadsheet models
  • Use of visualisation tools to present economic data analysis and communicate complex solutions to a wide audience
  • Proven ability to deliver technical outputs on time and on budget
  • Demonstrable ability to work within client organisations, developing working relationships resulting in further commercial opportunities
  • Demonstrable experience of taking senior leadership roles in teams in a project environment
  • Collaborative team player, able to develop business relationships and work across our business
  • Previous experience working for a management consultancy
  • Desirable :
