Opportunity for a VP / Director - Corporate Banking - Africa with a Global Corporate & Investment Bank. LondonThe role :

  • The role of Director exists to leadin marketing activities, origination of new business, execution of transactions and providing strategic and business development support to senior management in delivering the team, unit and department's budget and objectives.
  • The role may require supervision and / or training of junior staff and involvement multiple teams of internal and external staff in changing and high-pressure situations to deliver results.
  • The role also requires strong communication skills as there will be various interfaces both within the wider organisation locally (marketing & support departments), across EMEA and globally as well as externally including client facing dealing including marketing, at the most senior level.
  • The role sits within the Africa Group team, reporting into the Head of Africa Group
  • Generally, the role would involve front line origination, execution and credit management role, with geographical scope in Africa.
  • Originate, lead deals with a focus on the Corporates segment, and provide strategic and business development support to the head of the team, senior management, unit and department's budget and objectives
  • Outline detailed business strategies covering all types of clients (Corporates, FIs, Sovereigns, Multilaterals, etc), aligned with internal Credit / Risk approach and benchmarking on industries and clients, utilising deep knowledge of geography and client segment
  • Perform and supervise credit analyses for existing and new target clients.
  • The role may require supervision and / or training of junior staff and involvement multiple teams of internal and external staff in changing and high-pressure situations to deliver results.
  • There is a significant customer facing element to the role covering primarily corporate clients. The role may be expected to have its own network of customers, advisors and other industry players
  • Internally, the role would interface with various other departments in EMEA
  • Build and maintain senior client relationships and industry players
  • Originate deals, manage client relationships, cross sell bank's products
  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders internally with the support and product functions across the banking group.
  • As appropriate, input and guidance on financial modelling and analysis
  • Understand the Bank's internal procedures and processes, and relevant regulations and compliance matters and applying them correctly and in compliance with all rules and regulations and monitoring and supporting junior staff in doing so.
  • Work on asset management, and other areas of the department's wider business as requested.
  • Dealing with customers for origination of regulated products including telephone and face to face meetings.
  • Prepare externally facing marketing materials in line with the guidelines and seek compliance approval.
  • Take responsibility for a specific customer group (market, product region).
  • Increase exposure to team management responsibilities for more junior staff and by contributing to senior management initiatives.

  • Significant knowledge and experience of corporate finance theory, practice, risk analysis, credit, execution and documentation.
  • Strong numerical and financial skills essential and financial modelling experience
  • Good knowledge of corporate customers and clients for marketing purposes and the ability to work with and understand customer needs - the role would be expected to have its own network of customers and other industry players.
  • A significant element of leadership experience for transactions and of managing junior staff.
  • Previous experience of working in corporate finance in a relevant institution (bank, advisor, industry etc).
  • The ability to work on multiple tasks in parallel under pressure and to time constraints with significant changes.
  • The ability to work well with colleagues in multiple roles and at most levels of seniority across EMEA and other regions.
  • Education & Qualifications : Undergraduate level degree as a minimum and multiple language skills would be viewed favourably.
