The role

This role, reporting to Marketing Director is focussed on leading the Mail Newspapers Partnership team (this role plus 2 Executives) to negotiate added value offers to encourage readers to buy more from The Mail, more often.

A core part of the role will be developing the Mail’s loyalty programme to more compelling reason for readers to join.

The role sits within the marketing function of Mail Newspapers and will work closely with Communication teams to ensure effective delivery of any Partnerships agreements or offers.

The partnership functions should be 50% field based meeting partners and 50% based from Head office to be sure effective communication, execution and planning of offers within the wider marketing schedule.

Headline tasks

  • Heading up Partnership team to deliver added value offers for Mail Readers
  • Building added value propositions that drive acquisitions and frequency of purchase of Mail Products
  • Managing relationships with key partners, especially Nectar, within Mail’s Loyalty programme
  • Working with wider marketing team to ensure delivery and promotion of a partnership calendar of activity

  • Leading the day to day delivery of the Partnership programme for Mail Readers
  • Identifying key themes and offers that will positively change purchasing behaviour of Mail Products
  • Negotiating promotional offers, discounts or prizes in return for media space for Mail Newspapers
  • Driving the move from a series of tactical offers to long term sustainable added value partnerships
  • Working closely with advertising teams to ensure promotional partnerships are aligned and complimentary to any advertising agreements
  • Understanding media value Mail has to offer and how to use this to negotiate best deals from partners
  • Ensuring all partnership agreements are effectively communicated to Mail Marketing team and delivered as per any agreement
  • Negotiating deals with 3rd party partners for Promotional offers
  • Ensuring Mail Newspapers always has best in market offers for key events throughout the calendar
  • Responding to news events to source offers that show Mail is responsive and reacts to events
  • Identify key events that are relevant to our readers and securing appropriate and compelling offers
  • Understanding what offers drive best results and deliver promotional effectiveness
  • Building relationships with key partners for sourcing Promotional offers
  • Reporting on performance of relevant offers
  • Co-ordinating with 3rd parties

  • Strong network of contacts to source relevant offers
  • Experienced commercial negotiator
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage and influence a network of senior stakeholders
  • Good presentation skills
  • Empathy with core target audience of middle Britain, over 50’s
  • Track record of delivering sales promotions which deliver incremental sales and ability to learn the mechanics that deliver successful newspaper promotions
  • Work well under pressure and ability to react and respond to last minute business requests
  • Understanding of the legal requirements for promotional activity
  • Ability to build and maintain good relationships with senior internal & external contacts
  • Broad understanding of the wider media and publishing industry
  • Ability to manage and develop more junior team members
