Job Description

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Pharmacist to join the HCA Pharmacy Supply Chain as Lead Clinical Pharmacist-Formulary.

The post will be responsible for the setup of a Drugs & Therapeutics Committee to develop and publish a clinical formulary guidenace for HCA with the support of the Chief Medical Officer and consultants across the service lines.

The Postholder will work closely with all Lead Clinical Pharmacists across the HCA group to develop clinical guidelines and update the formulary chapters going forward.

As part of the development of a formulary, the post will work closely with the pharmacy teams across the facilities supporting them with regards to contract implementation and purchasing for safety.

This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week. The attractive and competitive salary for this role is between £46,974 - £57,412 and will be dependent upon skills and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up Drugs & Therapeutics Committee working closely with the HCA Chief Medical Officer
  • Support the CMO Chair for DTC as the Secretary in the smooth running of the business arrangements for the newly set up DTC.
  • Work closely with all consultants who sit on the newly formed DTC to review formulary chapters and agree a plan for standardisation across all HCA facilities
  • Lead on the configuration of the HCA formulary platform will be provided with training and support by external specialists.
  • Set up standard processes for managing a formulary
  • Set up a standard process for the management of non formulary items across the facilities
  • Undertake drug assessments and provide supporting information to the Drugs, Therapeutics and Medicines Management Committee (DTMMC) as requested
  • Assist in the introduction of new drugs within the Trust. To communicate formulary changes and local decisions to pharmacists and prescribers within the Trust as requested
  • Assist the Director of Pharmacy Operations and Director of Medication Safety as when required for clinical audits or projects
  • Support Supply Chain and the facilities in providing advice on NON oncology alternatives during potential shortages
  • Skills and Experience

  • Ability to manage difficult and ambiguous problems where little information is available
  • Demonstrates advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement in pharmacy practice
  • Ability to influence senior pharmacy, nursing, medical, and other multidisciplinary staff including issues not directly related to clinical management
  • Demonstrates awareness of and commitment to the principles of clinical governance
  • Organization skills proactively prioritises needs and effectively manages resources
  • Communication skills- communicates clearly, concisely both verbally and written Interpersonal skills- needs to work well with staff at facilities
  • Ability to analyse and critically appraise clinical and operational data Ability to utilise email, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software packages in order to enhance work efficiency and to generate solutions to complex problem
