Job Title : Family Support Worker

Location : Isleworth Campus (Hounslow), Feltham Campus

Contract type : Full time - 36 hours

Salary : £11.20per hours

Reports to : Alternative Provision Manager

This post will initially be based at Main Campus, Isleworth however, you may be required to undertake work at the Skills + Logistics Centre, Feltham

The purpose of the post is : to provide support to 14-16 year old students who need help overcoming barriers to learning, where behaviour / attendance issues are a cause for concern.

The intention is to bring about sustained change with individual students, to improve their behaviour and attendance.

About the candidate :

  • Mentoring experience
  • Pastoral care experience
  • Additional SEN experience - Autism, Dyslexia and Moderate learning Difficulties
  • Possess or willing to work towards a Literacy and Numeracy qualification at Level 2 or above
  • Have the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • The main duties and responsibilities are to :

    Specific duties :

  • To work with students experiencing health, social emotional and behavioural difficulties and / or at risk of social exclusion / disaffection and their families so they can participate fully in home and college activities in order to achieve their full potential.
  • To promote good attendance of students at college to enable them to learn effectively
  • To work with families, accessing resources
  • To deal with safeguarding concerns and referrals and ensure appropriate action is taken to safeguard the subject / s
  • To provide support for team members dealing with safeguarding matters and offer appropriate advice on handling issues appropriately.
  • To maintain the level of service offered by the team by planning with them their work schedules and maximising effectiveness and contribution.
  • To liaise effectively with departments in order to ensure the team is meeting needs and service delivery objectives and targets.
  • Participate in appropriate meetings with external agencies to achieve service objectives and improve service delivery.
  • Seek out and access funding opportunities to enhance service delivery
  • To ensure appropriate systems and processes are in place to respond to interest and enquiries regarding college provision and ensure a positive customer experience.
  • To manage the college's liaison with local colleges and feeder organisations to promote recruitment and aid transitions
  • To take part in and contribute to the organisation and management of student recruitment events and activities.
  • To contribute to the updating of the student / staff information.
  • To arrange and where necessary deliver training where needed
  • To participate in any required staff development activities as identified in the Unit or personal reviews.
  • To contribute to the continuous development and quality improvement of the service and play a lead role in service development.
  • To undertake staff performance reviews
  • To undertake activities to support the college's provision of pre-16 arrangements including liaising between colleges and internal departments to organise agreed provision.
  • Accountability

  • To undertake an active role in promoting liaison between parents, college staff and community and statutory teams and agencies as appropriate.
  • Support families by promoting links between the home, college and other relevant community and statutory resources so that students, who are currently experiencing health, social, emotional or behavioural difficulties benefit.
  • To provide advice and support to parents / carers / families in order to promote the parent / college partnership
  • To work in collaboration with the Inclusion Leader and the Education Welfare Officer to promote parent partnership and the welfare of all identified students.
  • To monitor attendance of students.
  • To provide support in co-ordinating, monitoring and evaluating any projects set up to support the pastoral needs of students in the college.
  • Monitoring the progress of students maintaining accurate records so that all interventions with students are documented, particularly in relation to a student's Pastoral Support Programmes, IEP or Statement of SEN support and report on involvement to relevant parties, as appropriate.
  • Raise self-esteem and promote positive behaviour patterns and discipline in working with students to assist their education and growth
  • To respond effectively to any behaviour incidents involving students.
  • To participate in the assessment of all students entering or returning to college in order to identify those who need extra help in overcoming issues relating to behaviour and following a period of exclusion.
  • To work in partnership with all staff in drawing up and implementing an action plan for each student in need of support.
  • To work in partnership with all college staff responsible for the students receiving support and intervention, seeking to reach acceptable outcomes that meet the needs of the student, overcoming the behaviors and attitudes that inhibit their progress at college.
  • To work in partnership with staff to secure positive family support and involvement by maintaining regular contact with families / carers of students receiving support / intervention.
  • To work with the mentor around setting their goals and achieving their personal targets

  • To be Eligible for the role you must have / be :

    Able to provide two professional references that cover the last two years of employment. Hold a current DBS certificate that is registered with the Update Service or be willing to complete one.
