    General : This position is a daily operational and support role within the Thales DIS IT Team for important customer facing infrastructure and systems.

    It has a strong focus on IT infrastructure, systems and security underpinning business applications that are operating 24x7.

    It covers all lifecycle phases from conception, design through to implementation and support. There will also be project activities in the Thales DIS UK IT team.

    This role requires SC security clearance owing to the systems being supported.

    Scope : Thales DIS UK sites (notably Production sites)

    Reporting : Reports to the UK DIS IT Manager

    Location : Fareham, UK

    Travel : Travel will be needed to Thales locations within the UK and possible occasional international travel

    Key responsibilities and tasks :

  • Day to day operational and support lead on technical infrastructure covering UK production environments (eg Government Programs and Banking networks)
  • Core working hours support cover for infrastructure plus on-call for out-of-hours support
  • Ensure infrastructure operates in line with agreed service levels
  • Manage and maintain physical and virtual server environments and infrastructure components in the Thales DIS network
  • Manage Active Directory environments including policies, OU, Group and User management
  • Ensure technical environments are aligned with standard Thales architecture and provide approved temporary solutions if needed.
  • Manage UK server room environments and related infrastructure
  • Maintain strong security in all environments and support logical audits
  • Coordinate or project manage technical projects
  • Give advice and technical expertise to UK business teams
  • Work with customers on technical issues relating to Thales solutions
  • Design and implement improvements to the IT environment
  • Address service or security non-conformances resulting from audits
  • Represent IT as a member of teams covering operational or project topics
  • Deliver local technology projects on time and within budget
  • Be responsive to incidents and issues impacting the supported environments
  • Prepare and lead internal and external audits
  • Maintain a strict change control mechanism for all changes
  • Maintain up-to-date technical documentation on the network including : network topology / diagrams, back-up and restore procedures, security procedures, operation / support procedures.
  • Manage and monitor subcontractors working on the DIS UK Production infrastructure
  • Skills and Experience

    Strong track record in technical projects or operations support

    Strong knowledge of networking and server administration / support / management

    Experience of working in secure environments

    Strong networking and server management

    Strong knowledge of Windows Hyper-V environments

    Knowledge of VMWare / ESX virtualisation environments

    Server build, migration, hardening and deployment

    Strong knowledge of Active Directory (DNS, DHCP, NTFS Permissions)

    Logical audit experience

    Experience of working in an international IT / IS organisation

    Knowledge and experience of WAN / VPN Management

    Firewall Management (Cisco ASA / Juniper)

    Excellent communicator (written and verbal)

    Business focussed

    Strong customer-service orientation

    Able to work without high supervision

    ITIL Foundation

    Cisco CCNA / CCNP Certified

    On Call for Out-of-Hours support

    In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and / or education history for up to three years.
