Our Silver Trauma ward (A604) is specialist 22 bed Acute Orthopaedic Elderly Trauma ward, which makes every effort to promote a safe, calm and relaxed environment for patients and their relatives.

Our elderly patients frequently have chronic medical conditions in addition to their acute surgical needs. Which makes this is the perfect location to start your nursing career or take the opportunity to change direction.

We are committed to a Multi-disciplinary Team approach, working together to ensure that patients are able to maximise their potential & reduce length of stay.

We empower our nurse to deliver high quality, safe and expert care. This is achieved by an excellent teaching-based ward ethos that recognise our staffs potential and nurtures needs their individual needs through a supportive network provided by our Practice Education Facilitators (PEF).

Our development opportunities include :

  • A PEF is available to support and enhance your surgical and medical nursing skills. Working alongside you to offer guidance and reassurance promoting individual learning in order to achieve a range of competencies.
  • Twice weekly ward based teaching sessions delivered to improve nurses’ knowledge and skills to ensure that they feel confident and competent to deliver expert safe patient quality care.
  • Opportunity to attend the 2 day Ward Survival Guide study day to guide you through your first months post qualifying
  • Further learning opportunities are available at the Trauma & Orthopaedic Study day aimed at achieving T&O specific competencies.
  • Mentoring by experienced staff and support from the senior nursing team.
  • This is busy and demanding ward on which to work and we recognise that your wellbeing is fundamental to delivering outstanding patient care.

    We ensure that rosters are published well in advance to allow you to plan ensuring a healthy work life balance.
