How will you make an impact?

The Manufacturing Technician will work as part of a manufacturing team, carrying out batch processes to manufacture and purify chemicals, taking responsibility for the safety, quality and delivery of work undertaken.

Ideally you will have an interest in progressing to a team leader role with time.

What will you do?

  • Complete batch manufacture, using semi-automated and manual chemical reactors. Assemble, competently use and dissemble plant equipment.
  • Monitor reaction progress using analytical methods and take corrective actions to produce the batch within specification.
  • Carry out routine safety inspections and quality checks including calibrations, daily and weekly checks of work area, start-up and shutdowns.
  • Use MRP system and web based systems for accessing and recording information.
  • Plan own workload and assist with the daily planning and organisation of work.
  • Undertake COSHH assessments, risk assessments and HAZOPs.
  • Be aware of the hazardous nature of the materials being handled and possible compatibility problems.
  • Achieve and maintain departmental KPI metrics in accordance to targets.
  • Be prepared to move between manufacturing areas, and to move between Departments within the Company, depending on resource requirements.
  • Embrace and participate in PPI initiatives to identify improvements and cost savings to the business.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with legislation and company procedures.
  • How will you get here?

    Education :

  • A-Levels / A-Level equivalent / Relevant Chemical Manufacturing Qualification e.g. City & Guilds Process Chemistry, Chemistry / Chemical Engineering degree.
  • Minimum 5 GCSE grades A C including Maths, English and a Science.
  • Microsoft Office intermediate level.
  • Experience / Skills and Abilities

  • Desire to work in a technical but hands-on role.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to achieve and encourage others to achieve.
  • Display ambition and attributes to progress to a Team Leader within Chemical Manufacturing.
  • Demonstrable experience in general chemical manufacturing processes, techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations, DSEAR, COMAH and hazards associated with handling chemicals, correct controls and use of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Work effectively with others within own team and colleagues from other areas of the business.
  • Able to communicate clearly at all levels on both written and verbal basis.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to finding solutions to processing problems.
  • Driven to complete all allocated projects and tasks within set timelines.
  • Display a positive attitude and demeanour and act as a role model leader at all times.
  • Willing to work variable shifts.
