JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
Design, procure and maintain custom instrumentation for the test and calibration of optoelectronic devices used across several manufacturing stages from chip, chip-on-carrier, gold-box and module.
Design and lifecycle manage custom electronics hardware (PCBAs) to enable test, alignment, calibration, burn-in and other manufacturing stages in a cleanroom environment.
The main focus is on the data acquisition electronics equipment to support test automation rather than on the software to implement the actual test stages but some software expertise is required for FW, calibration and GUI development (e.
g. embedded C, C#, VB.net).
This is a mix of analogue (typically source-measure circuits) and digital (control) electronics used to drive and measure the performance of electro-optical components.
Improve and maintain existing electronics solutions to ensure new requirements are met without disrupting production schedule and output targets.
Occasionally design evaluation (RF) boards for optoelectronics gold boxes and optical transceivers (e.g. SFP+, CFP2).
Design and supervise manufacturing (outsourced) of the hardware required to support product ramps without delays.
Support other teams by reviewing and contributing to the schematic / layout design of PCBAs used in the products.
This role is within the Hardware Test Team, based in Caswell, with the remit to support the Lumentum Transmission Business Unit.
This team is complementary to the Software Test team.
Critical skills include analogue and digital design at schematic level, HDL, debugging electronics, firmware and some software.
Some layout expertise also required.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS :
Test Engineers customers for the electronics
Product Engineers specifications owners
Operations support to volume ramp in UK and abroad
Chip R&D and Reliability
Managers, Equipment Engineers, Procurement

Skills / Competencies Desirable :
Some experience in FPGA soft cores and RTOS highly desirable
Some experience on source-measure DC circuits and power design (current / voltage sources, transimpedance amplifiers, TEC controllers, DACs / ADCs, board power supplies)
Some experience dealing with signal integrity issues designs need to be optimized for speed
Previous work on fast links between control PCs and custom electronics and / or fast links between multiple PCBs
Some experience of C# , VB.net and / or Matlab
Previous work with instrumentation and optoelectronics
Some soldering experience
Previous experience with Oracle AGILE PLM
Experience in Mentor graphics PADS not essential
The candidate will have to demonstrate that they are capable working within a team environment and have proven practical experience in completing given tasks.
Using both their technical background and hands-on skills to enable them to integrate quickly into a wider development team.
The candidate must also be able demonstrate strong inter-personal communication skills.
There may be occasional travel to other Lumentum sites.
Not critical but a driver’s license is highly recommended.
