About the Team :
Finance in Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) consists of circa 100 FTE and has a number of key roles :
To partner the business to enhance decision making with a focus on strategy, planning, analysis and reporting. Support is provided both to the three management Pillars’ London, Reinsurance and International and also to the supporting functions within LSM.
To ensure that all external financial reporting requirements (statutory, regulatory, tax, capital etc) are fulfilled. LSM consists of a Lloyd’s Syndicate, a UK insurance company with European branches, a number of small service companies and a portion of a US balance sheet.
To provide insightful performance analysis on the LSM legal entities to the Legal Entity Management Committees enabling effective performance planning and management.
To report to our US Parent on standard monthly requirements and ad-hoc requests on both a pillar and a legal basis.
To give finance operations support to the business and finance. Finance strives for continuous improvement in all areas and aims for excellent customer service, supported by quality and efficient processes, all operating within a robust control environment
Key Responsibilities :
Business Partner key stakeholders on all Syndicate financial performance metrics Responsible for developing strong relationships with the Executive and Senior Management of the Syndicate and act as the first point of contact for financial management queries.
Build and maintain a strong working relationship with the Central Pillar finance teams ensuring all requirements pertaining to the performance management of the legal entity are accurately defined and communicated in a timely manner.
In-depth understanding of the Syndicate and the lines of business written on the platform to ensure that monthly financial reporting is fully analysed, understood, challenged and explained to the Executive and Senior management within LSM.
Manage the delivery of the Syndicate Business Forecast; liaising with cross function stakeholders to ensure the completeness and accuracy of the business plan and complete a full review of the numbers ahead of submission to the Board and Lloyd’s.
Prepare Board and Management Committee packs including analysis and commentaries highlighting key messages.
Develop efficient and effective communication with key persons at Lloyd’s to enhance the vital relationship between LSM and Lloyd’s;
Develop detailed knowledge of the performance of the Syndicate lines of business and entity as a whole, ensuring the Active Underwriter and UK Legal Entity Managing Director are fully appraised of the Syndicate result both on a GAAP and YOA basis (albeit core outputs will be prepared centrally);
Take the lead on entity remediation work arising from Lloyd's and PRA working with the appropriate pillar business partners and across functions.
Working closely with the legal entity reporting team to understand and dissect the Lloyd’s submissions to enable effective review and be a key contributor within the formal sign off process.
Develop an understanding of how the Syndicate interacts with other LSM legal entities and ensure these relationships are appropriately reflected in the results and plan.
Establish an understanding of the other LSM legal entities and close working relationships within the team to enable support of other Legal Entity Business Partner in busy periods.
Continually working to improve legal entity process, reporting capability and analysis through the appropriate regulators lens and supporting other functions to meet requirements.
Act as an advocate for LSM Finance, and as a role model within the Finance function; supporting the finance teams to achieve key LSM external and internal finance deliverables and strategic objectives.
Support with analysis on ad hoc tasks, projects and other initiatives.
What the ideal candidate will have :
ACA / CIMA / ACCA qualified with relevant work experience, preferably in the same or similar role within Syndicate insurance.
An in-depth knowledge of insurance accounting and industry knowledge.
A trusted advisor who is highly skilled at developing key relationships and the ability to quickly build credibility, trust and rapport to encourage open and meaningful dialogue.
Highly analytical approach to work to complete detailed analysis with structured, robust approach to data manipulation, interpretation and present findings in a clear and simple manner.
Ability to consider a variety of data and information sources, approaches and possible outcomes for decision making.
Ability to develop strong relationships throughout all levels of the organisation and build effective working relationships across the wider finance team.
Demonstrate leadership qualities and facilitation skills to recognise and build cross-functional collaboration through continuous improvement.
Experience of operating in a multi-cultural environment, shows respect and understanding when interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds, adapting working style to achieve collaboration and good working relationships.
Demonstrates strong problem-solving capability and the ability to independently work through and resolve issues as they arise.
Minimum Intermediate MS Excel skills and experience with Microsoft BI, SAP and Oryx planning would be advantageous
