Pharmaron acquired the Hoddesdon campus, consisting of several purpose built scientific and administrative buildings together with a purpose built conference area in February 2017.

The research building has more than 5,000m2 of premier R&D space and houses an established Process Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Drug Discovery team.

The Hoddesdon site has state-of-the-art Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standard facilities for the development of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), formulation development and process chemistry.

The Pharmaron UK Drug Discovery team provides world-class drug discovery leadership to our partners in the life-science industry.

As trusted collaborators, and in synergy with the unique capabilities and resources of the global Pharmaron group, our science teams aim to create small-molecule preclinical candidates of exceptional quality.

As part of our expansion, we are seeking a Senior Scientist to become an integral part of the drug discovery teams and provide synthetic chemistry expertise to the Pharmaron’s Drug Discovery Services capabilities.

Key roles and responsibilities

Maintain high synthetic chemistry productivity.

Provide solutions for complex chemical problems by demonstrating expertise and competency in the core Synthetic Chemistry skills for assigned projects.

Execute experiments and interpret results to solve assigned problems of moderate complexity.

Participate in relationships with clients, providing regular updates on project progress, hosting client visits, addressing technical queries and delivering client project requirements.

Interpret and report results of all experiments in line with department practices and governing policies.

Qualification

A PhD or PhD / PostDoc orBSc / MSc in synthetic chemistry with multiyear experience in a world-class small molecule drug discovery organization

Experience of Synthetic chemistry experience in a laboratory having demonstrated multi-step synthesis, purification and characterisation of compounds.

Experience with automated purification systems

Sound knowledge on usage of analytical techniques such as NMR and mass spec

Familiarity with the use of industry standard IT tools such as electronic notebook, Scifinder, Office applications, Chemdraw

Outstanding knowledge of practical synthetic chemistry

Communication skills are essential to be successful in this role.
