Our established finance team is looking for a Senior Tax Assistant, who will be a key part of our excellent team of tax professionals and share our professional and commercial values, while striving for excellence.
This unique opportunity is suitable for a part-qualified finance professional with experience in tax. The role encompasses an extensive strategic tax advisory and compliance agenda with a senior stakeholder audience, including the implementation of tax policies, tax risk management and internal stakeholder / client relationship management within a global firm.
The role is within our Central Finance Team and will be based in either Sheffield or Leeds. The successful candidate will become a part of our best in class tax team, and will be provided with an excellent opportunity of professional growth within an international, commercially minded and professionally established finance function.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Partnership taxation :
Income Tax computations : Prepare / review the UK income tax analyses and finalise for manager review, together with specific issues for clarification Prepare notes for external advisors to aid review Undertake / oversee the monthly review of tax sensitive expense accounts Undertake / oversee the analysis of year end accounts Undertake / oversee the analysis of general ledger accounts Ensure all necessary backup documentation is obtained for files Prepare initial technical tax analysis of transactions outside of the performance of professional services (e.g. property changes, etc)
Capital allowances calculations : Prepare / review the UK capital allowances calculations and finalise for manager review, together with specific issues for clarification Undertake / oversee the analysis and categorisation of fixed asset movements Prepare / review the reconciliation of all movements to the notes in the final accounts Review schedules for QS reports.
Corporate Taxation :
Prepare / review corporation tax computations for UK companies
Prepare / review the calculation of payments on account each quarter (if required) and any balancing payment on finalisation
Periodic / Year-end tasks :
Assist with the yearly budgeting process
Review or calculate tax charges for inclusion in statutory accounts for UK entities
Review of consolidation packs of Belgian and German operations
Initial preparation of the UK aspects of the partnership level deferred tax calculations
Assist with the reconciliation of the UK profit allocation to taxable profits
Assist with the preparation of the deferred tax report to tax committee
Perform an annual review of tax and statutory compliance deadlines in co-ordination with other Senior Tax Assistant(s) to ensure compliance calendar is accurate
Assist in the review of CbC reporting data
Follow up / escalation where quarterly tax checklists are not completed and returned (including inadequate completion)
Review own tax processes at least annually, with a view to identifying areas for improvement
Seek to identify areas for improvement in other tax processes for which the Tax Managers and Senior Tax Managers have responsibility
Tax Risk Management :
Assist with the development and maintenance of tax risk management processes and controls.
Belgium / Germany :
Perform initial review (where required) of overseas tax returns and tax payments in advance of submission, identifying and querying material changes from previous returns
Follow up / escalate instances of non-compliance (or potential non-compliance) with local finance managers and tax managers
Review of the yearly profit allocation
Assist with the introduction and ongoing administration of tax reserving for the German partners
UK Partners :
Assist with ad hoc partner income tax return and tax reserving matters
Other / Ad-hoc work :
Assist on project work
Assist with ad hoc requests from the business
Review staff mobility queries to assess the risk of a Permanent Establishment and ensure appropriate controls are in place where required
Monitor the invoicing and tracking of key transactions in sterling and currency, ensuring all teams (central tax, central finance, local finance) are working with the same amounts
Assist with territory Tax Compliance Reviews
Attend meetings and join periodic update calls with overseas finance managers. Prepare minutes of periodic update calls and monitor / follow up on actions arising
Review the local to group reconciliations to ensure that accounting differences are minimised
Develop relationships with key personnel
Provide cover and support when the Tax Accountants and Tax Managers are unavailable
Have a minimum of 2-years’ experience of working in tax and be able to apply that existing knowledge and experience to new situations / scenarios
have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, coupled with the ability to influence, negotiate and persuade
demonstrate a flexible and collaborative personal working style
be able to build and maintain strong relationships across all levels within the organisation
have the interpersonal skills to work as part of a larger team to deliver seamless services to the partnership
work alongside more senior colleagues
have strong planning and organisation skills
be comfortable multi-tasking and working to conflicting timescales and multiple priorities in a robust and fast-paced environment
be able to balance a high volume of work and deliver consistently high-quality work under pressure
be logical, analytical and intelligent
be a self-starter, who is able to work on their own initiative as well as being part of a team, and have a strong client service orientation
take the initiative to identify new opportunities and challenge established ways of doing things
be working / willing to work towards appropriate professional qualification, such as ACCA, ACA or CTA
If based in Leeds, spend at least one day per week working in Sheffield
