Job Description Summary

JOB TITLE : Biopharmaceutical Characterisation Scientist

ROLE :

The successful applicant for this position will be joining the Characterisation team within Analytical Services at Lonza Slough.

In this role they will be responsible for the planning and execution of analytical testing on therapeutic proteins to support product characterisation and biocomparability studies for our customers, contributing to their drug development lifecycle and getting lifesaving medicines to market.

Working as part of a small, close knit team, in a fast paced and highly regulated environment, to be successful in this role the ideal candidate must be well organised with good problem solving skills, a high level of attention to detail and have a passion for delivering high quality data on time.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Providing direct laboratory analytical support for product characterisation services that are required for the manufacture and development of antibodies and other recombinant proteins being manufactured by Lonza.
  • The execution multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring work planned and scheduled appropriately and delivered to agreed timelines and quality standards.
  • Provide scientific mentoring and training to develop others and promote good scientific practice
  • Collate, analyse and evaluate data from work / study programs
  • Review and critique reports to prepare them for final review
  • Maintenance of analytical equipment, technologies and / or systems required to support product characterisation
  • Preparation and delivery of presentations, protocols, reports and SOPs with first time quality
  • Liaise with customers and support customer audits and regulatory inspections
  • ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Hands-on experience in performing LC-MS based methods for protein characterisation eg peptide mapping, intact mass analysis, oligosaccharide profiling
  • An understanding of protein chemistry gained from a minimum of a BSc in chemistry, biochemistry or a related field and experience working in a laboratory environment
  • A proven track record of delivering projects / studies on time to a high standard
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Enjoy working in a fast paced and challenging environment with a high level of enthusiasm and motivation.
  • DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS :

  • Familiarity with methods and instruments used for protein characterisation such as icIEF, CGE, HPLC (SEC, RP, HIC, IEX, HILIC), FTIR, SEC-
  • MALS and / or Western blotting

  • Understanding of GMP and regulatory requirements for biopharmaceutical products
