PrincipalEngineer - Vulnerability and Shock
Would you likean exciting new position on the Type 26 programme, the Global CombatShip (T26) will be a highly capable and versatile multi-
mission warshipdesigned to support anti-submarine warfare, air defence and general purposeoperations anywhere on the world’s ocean.
A team of engineers are working to mature the detailed design andsupport solution for the ship. The Type 26 will replace the UK’s Type 23frigates, with the first set to enter service in the 2020s and the lastremaining in service beyond the middle of the century.

The role ofthe Principal Engineer Vulnerability & Shock is to provide engineeringsupport to the shock design of the Type 26 Platform.
The main objective of thisteam is to reduce the ship’s vulnerability to underwater explosion from threatssuch as mines and torpedoes.
This role willprovide you with an opportunity to use your existing experience and lead a teamof engineers supporting this large scale programme.
Your mainresponsibilities as a Principal Engineer will involve :
Ensuringsuppliers are compliant with the Type 26 shock requirements by assessing theirdesigns, shock qualification proposals and shock results
Act as thetechnical lead within engineering for the Composite Armour procurement packageto ensure the armour solution applied to Type 26 is optimised to balance theneeds of all stakeholders within the project and in support of the MagazineSafety Case
Liaise withthe composite armour supplier and supply chain lead to ensure timely deliveryof engineering data for the armour solution
Providesupport to Engineering Manager - Vulnerability and Shock in Assurance andAcceptance events, Assurance Reviews and Quarterly Margin Reviews
Your skillsand qualifications as a Principal Engineer :
Essential Skills :
Experience ofdesigning equipment to meet structural requirements
Workingknowledge of the engineering life cycle and the relationship between activitiesin different phases of the engineering lifecycle
Capable ofproblem definition within a system, identifying, implicit and explicitboundaries, interfaces, constraints and requirements.
Technicalknowledge of modelling and verification techniques for transversals andexperience using CAD / Foran
Previousexperience of managing or supervising a team of engineers
Desirable Skills :
Proficientuser of MS packages including excel
Technicalknowledge of platform design and integration for naval surface or submarineswould be preferable
