    Facilities Technician needed for The Scouts' Northern Adventure sites

    Core Purpose

    We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivating, logical thinker to join our team and support our Great Tower Scout Adventure site to ensure the buildings and site are in tip top condition, safe and ready for use by our guests.

    The successful candidate will be the go-to person on centre for all the minor maintenance issues that come up, so a hand’s on and practical skilled person is what we are looking for.

    Safety is always at the forefront of what we do alongside our aim to deliver great customer service to ensure Scout Adventures have safe, well maintained and compliant buildings for their guests.

    Health and Safety

  • Undertake and record all building and facilities related safety and compliance checks as required. Ensuring they are completed on time so we know our building are safe and ready for use.
  • There is a varied array of checks such as; Emergency light testingFire alarm testingFire extinguishers checksDisabled alarm testingCarbon monoxide alarm testingLegionella system of control (flushing, temperature checks, descaling, TMV servicing)Defib and first aid kit checksVehicle / Plant checks

  • Working strictly within the Scout Association Health and Safety policy and operational procedures, and to immediately report or deal with any hazards up the line management chain
  • Be the onsite presence to book in and managing any contractors; ensuring the contractors management plan is put into action locally
  • Be the onsite presence to ensure the permits to work system is utilised locally
  • Work with and help local volunteer teams to ensure any projects are planned and completed safely, ensuring correct materials are purchased and installed.
  • Ensure hazardous areas such as; workshops, work yards, fuel stores and gas cages remain risk free, tidy and safe.
  • Ensure all facilities tasks are adequately risk assessed and documented
  • Maintenance

  • Ensure any faults identified are reported, update job system and communicated to centre manager
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and liaise with the Facility Managers to implement change and provide information on projects at budget prep time
  • Complete pre use building checks and carry out any necessary repairs
  • Perform maintenance tasks and decorating as required
  • When required contact and oversee contractor works
  • Assist centre manager in any other tasks as requested
  • Person specification

  • At least 3 year working in a Maintenance / Facilities environment
  • Logical thinker with excellent attention to detail
  • Able to self-prioritise work load
  • Hold a full UK valid driving license
  • Able to Work at Heights on ladders, steps, scaffold tower and MEWPS
  • Knowledge and ability to complete multi skilled maintenance tasks
  • Current First Aid Qualification or willingness to train
  • Current Legionella and Asbestos awareness qualification or willing to train
  • Understanding and experience in completing statutory compliance tasks such as fire alarm checks
  • Good communicator
  • Hard Worker
  • Able think outside the box and think of news ways to complete tasks
  • Willingness to help others
  • Self-motivator and able to work independently and in a team to achieve shared goals
  • Excellent time management skills
  • The nature of this post and the environment may require some weekend work

    Holiday Entitlement : On top of your generous 25 days holiday we give you up to three extra days off between Christmas and New Year.

    The Scouts will contribute double at 6% of your qualifying earnings on auto enrolment. You can increase your contribution at any point and we will double your contribution up to a maximum of 10% of your gross salary.

    Looking after your family : Your loved ones will receive four times the basic salary if you pass away while employed by us.

    Car parking : Yes, our parking is free at all sites.

    Minibus Service : When working at Gilwell Park, a minibus can collect you at various times from Chingford Station and drop you back at various times.
