Job Title : Transport Planner

Location : Lurgan - Ireland

Shifts : Rotating 10am-7pm / 1pm - 10pm

Morgan McLernon - The largest operation in Northern and Southern Ireland, specialising in ambient, chilled, and frozen storage and logistics services.

We are now recruiting for a Transport Planner on a full time basis at our Lurgan depot

JOB DESCRIPTION

Effectively planning driver and vehicle resources to achieve delivery / collection times, whilst optimizing resources and adhering to WTD and drivers’ hours legislation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :

  • Effectively planning driver and vehicle resources to achieve delivery / collection times, creating and updating daily run summary
  • Ensuring that service levels are achieved and maintained, in conjunction with other departments
  • Optimising resources and adhering to WTD and drivers’ hours legislation
  • Controlling equipment through sign in / sign out procedure
  • Maintaining clear and effective communication with drivers, communicating accurate start times, load information, directions, additional shifts, etc.
  • Increasing staff retention and maintaining good morale, reporting any driver’s issues or concerns to management. In turn, communicating any operational changes that may affect a driver’s daily duties
  • Ensuring adherence to all statutory and legal requirements, adhering to all health & safety / safe systems of work
  • Liaising with the shipping companies to ensure we get the required allocation each day
  • The above list of responsibilities is not exhaustive, and you may be required to undertake other responsibilities and training as requested by your line manager, appropriate to your job role.

  • Knowledge, Skills & Experience :
  • Significant knowledge & experience of tachograph / driving rules and regulations
  • CPC National desirable but not essential
  • Previous management / supervisory experience
  • Attention to detail / accuracy
  • Planning and organising skills, high level of numeracy
  • Negotiating skills, ability to influence and steer
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Adaptable and methodical approach to work / training
  • Conscientious and reliable
  • Excellent communication skills in order to deliver accurate information
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft office packages
  • The ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure
  • Effectively prioritise work load in order to meet set deadlines
  • Able to work as part of a team or individually
  • Have knowledge of Road Transport Directive and current drivers’ hours
  • Be professional, approachable and helpful to ensure smooth running of the general operation
  • Significant transport experience in FMCG environment
  • Customer service driven
