Role overview

We are currently recruiting for a Design & Estimating Engineer (Solutions Architect) to join our evolving Pre Sales team within The NG Bailey IT Services Division.

We are seeking a tenacious individual who can add value to Client engagements and bring innovative solutions to design challenges.

Purpose of the role

The purpose of the role is to take ownership of design solutions, cost builds and quote response documentation associated to the allocated stream of business.

When required, conduct site surveys in order to develop appropriate, cost effective solutions in line with contractual agreements, industry standards, H&S guidelines and company directives.

On occasion, attend regional Customer Sites to maintain technology and sales support awareness.

Provide technical support to internal and Client representatives as required to enable the best possible win chance, review survey engineer reports to ensure standards & H&S compliance whilst ensuring cost effectiveness and SLA compliance.

Negotiate best price with labour and / or material suppliers as deemed necessary.

The Solutions Architect is expected to keep up to date with current technologies and market trends, interacting closely with the channel and end customers to formulate bespoke solutions.

The profile of works to be addressed have a heavy bias towards structured cabling infrastructure but frequently include associated disciplines such as WiFi and ICT.

The majority of work will be undertaken in support of prospective as well as legacy managed service customers UK wide against challenging SLA’s.

This role will be primarily home based and we are keen to be flexible on location. The successful candidate will be aligned to their local NG Bailey office location in London, Bristol, Birmingham, Reading or Leeds offices to encourage interaction with team members.

You will :

  • Create Solutions - The Solutions Architect is expected to keep up to date with current market trends based on the technical specialisation.
  • Understand design principles and best practices, interacting with other members to assemble premium solutions.

  • Technical Proposal Writing - The Solutions Architect will be required to have technical proficiency across all the solutions that NG Bailey IT Services offer.
  • This will enable the Solutions Architect to specify the correct High Level Design, Bill of Materials and accurate scoping of the number of Professional Services days required to deliver the solution.

  • Supporting the Business Development Team - The Solutions Architect will be required to attend customer meetings with Account Managers to help gather the business and technical requirements.
  • These requirements will be documented and become the input for the High-Level Design Document. The Solutions Architect will support the evolving technical roadmap of service offerings bringing insight and value add to the process.

  • Host Technical Seminars and Demos for Customers and Prospects -The Solutions Architect will have a good technical understanding of the solutions to enable them to present a detailed demonstration to customers.
  • The Solutions Architect will have the ability to tailor the demonstration to highlight business and / or technical requirements that interest the customer.

  • Present Technical updates to Customers - The Solutions Architect will present technical updates for customers as required.
  • These will be part of the technical strategy for that customer.

  • Project Meetings - The Solutions Architect will attend project meetings as directed by the project manager. These will, in most cases, be internal project kick-off meetings to hand over design authority to the solutions installation team.
  • Will also need to attend external meetings as required.

  • Administrative Management - Ensure all appropriate information is constantly updated accurately within the operational systems.
  • Ensure all appropriate information for billing has been accurately updated ensure sales and operations teams are informed of any changes to solutions designs.

    You will have :

  • Multiple Vendor experience such as Commscope, Draka, Mayflex, Corning, Leviton
  • Demonstrable experience of designing network cabling / WiFi installations (3 years+)
  • Able to use initiative and applying a forward thinking mind set
  • Demonstrate the ability to interface with customers with a professional and informative approach
  • Desirable but not essential at this level - Design Qualifications e.g. CNID, CNIDP, RCDD, EKAHAU
