Irwin Mitchell is one of the few firms to offer a rare opportunity to specialise in this high profile work, and is a deeply rewarding area of personal injury law.

Ideally, you will have Claimant multi track serious / catastrophic injury related experience and will have some experience working on high value and complex cases involving brain injury, spinal cord injury, upper and lower limb amputations or severe orthopaedic injury related cases.

You will join Partner Fran Mayes and her team in our Newcastle office, specialising in pursuing claims following serious brain and spinal cord injury.

The cases Fran’s team pursues are often very complex and high value. Rehabilitation is always at the forefront of the team’s minds and they aim to get their clients the help they need when they need it.

This normally involves sorting out help with care and getting the client the therapies they need such as physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and occupational therapy.

Equipment / transport / housing / employment and education are some of the other issues that Fran’s team look at during the course of the claim.

Compensation can never turn the clock back but it can enable clients to have a decent quality of life again and reduce or eliminate the stress placed upon their loved ones.

The team has achieved many multi-million pound awards on behalf of their clients and is externally recognised for their experience and specialism by the Legal 500, Chambers and Partners and the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers

Your Role

As an Associate Solicitor in the team, you will lead the investigation and litigation in a range of high quality, high value Serious Injury cases, working as part of a team to ensure early access to rehabilitation and therapy via interim payments of damages and optimise costs recovery.

You will also assist in developing external relationships across the North East and Cumbria to provide an exceptional client experience and generate new cases.

You’ll be a key player in the Serious Injury team and regularly contribute to area meetings, ensuring your team objectives are being met.

As an experienced solicitor within Serious Injury, you’ll have the opportunity to train and mentor others in your team, and we’ll provide you with the support and direction to help you do this.

What we’ll need from you :

  • Have significant experience of higher value multi-track Personal Injury litigation, ideally in Serious Injury cases involving brain and spinal cord injuries.
  • Be able to operate independently and as part of a team to deliver the best outcomes for our seriously injured clients.
  • Have excellent client care and inter-personal skills, operating with integrity and showing empathy and intuition to help guide our clients through challenging personal circumstances.
  • Have a strong appetite for business development, able to build successful relationships with medical and other professionals.
  • Existing contacts in the region would be an advantage.

  • Have ambition, energy and enthusiasm for Personal Injury Law and a friendly, enthusiastic and can-do approach.
  • Prior experience of developing others and / or leading a team would also be beneficial.
